In Short Order -- Dr. Charles McWilliams

    in Health

This active, Medical Order is the last such organization, carrying on the work of monastic medicine, and we wish to have it preserved for the benefit of future generations as well as serve a lasting memory of a movement that contributed significantly to the Renaissance of today’s modern medicine. This heritage included languages, transcription, folk tales, ceremonies, etc. about traditional medicine, and all the medical and nursing skills that were handed down from generation to generation including surgery and ambulatory care. These traditions and practices reflect the spirit of members and communities of the doctors from Europe to the Americas, to the Philippines. This intangible heritage is at great risk as the natural and spiritual heritage must be preserved to the world for future posterity.

The new school emphasizes the biological sciences in relation to theistic evolution, bedside diagnosis, tropical medicine, laboratory, emergency medicine, minor surgery, chaplaincy, nursing, and rural primary care. Academic learning will work in concert with clinical rotations in the rural clinics sponsored and operated by the Order.

Description: The program is combined online studies with clinical rotations as service to the Order's Hospitals and primary care centers. The centers are currently located in Nevis, West Indies; Quito and Santo Domingo Ecuador; Malakoff, Texas; Cyprus; with other centers developing. Enrollment is limited to members of the Order having taken monastic vows.

Admittance into the School is by formal application with a referral of Knight in good standing. Upon application and confirmation, an appointment for personal interview is arranged.

In Short Order -- Shani Fox, N.D.

    in Health

Life wants each of us to know and express the magnificence within ourselves, and to honor that magnificence in each other.

Dr. Shani Fox’s passion for helping survivors reclaim an extraordinary life after cancer came as a “calling” in mid-life. The calling followed her observation that too many survivors, after completing acute cancer treatment, are left feeling unwell, unsupported and alone, wondering who to turn to that understands their needs.

Dr. Shani’s mission is that every survivor transition from acute treatment directly into loving, expert care aimed at supporting complete recovery, building resilience to future disease, and leveraging the hard-won wisdom of the cancer experience to create a life of peace and deep fulfillment.

Through her exquisite gifts of compassion and insights as physician and a life mastery coach, she is particularly skilled at helping patients overcome their fear of cancer recurrence, which may affect up to 96 percent of survivors.

Prompted by her father’s death in 2001, Dr. Shani, as she prefers to be called, discovered she wanted to make a direct, positive difference in the lives of others, as her dad had so lovingly modeled. Although her father died from cancer, it was how he lived for “28 bonus years” following a near-fatal car accident when Dr. Shani was 15 that most impacted her.

“With the understanding of life’s fragility tha t only such an experience can bring, he lived the remainder of his days to the fullest,” Dr. Shani shares. “He didn’t waste time or words. Every human interaction was sacred to him, and he spent every moment he could enjoying his family, leaving a legacy of happy memories to those who loved him.”

  • In Short Order -- Dr. Sylvia Lafair

    in Health

Sylvia Lafair, Ph.D. is President of Creative Energy Options, Inc. (CEO), a global consulting company that
targets and transforms workplace patterns for success. Sylvia has hiked the Inca Trail into Machu Picchu, has eaten indiscernible stew in the Amazon, and bungee jumped in New Zealand. When she lands long enough, she writes books, gives speeches, and leads seminars. Sylvia, ever the pioneer, retooled her skills as a noted family therapist to become a leadership expert and executive coach. In the workplace she helps teams find the sweet spot of cooperation and productivity.

Dr. Lafair’s programs and executive coaching helps decrease conflict and increase cooperation in the workplace. Her award winning book ‘Don’t Bring It to Work’ (Jossey-Bass 2009) is listed as one of the top nine books for every boss to read; one of the top twenty books for emerging leaders, and has won ten awards nationally and internationally.

Dr. Lafair’s research shows that, much as we like to believe that our behavior is entirely rational, our thoughts and actions are often driven by the roles we learned in our families as children for safety and survival. Under pressure, we tend to revert to old patterns, often creating workplace drama that diverts attention from business and undermines productivity.

Other award winning books are: ‘GUTSY: How Women Leaders Make Change,’ (earning six book awards), and Dr. Lafair’s newest book, ‘UNIQUE: How Story Sparks Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement’ (with two book awards to date and counting).
