Borderline Personality Disorder and Sexual Addiction with Carol the Coach

    in Self Help

Sex addicts and partners of sex addicts can have mental illnesses that complicate diagnosis and recovery.  One of these mental illnesses is borderline personality disorder, or BPD.  BPD is commonly associated with sex addiction and makes sex addiction much more difficult to diagnose and treat because the criteria for both diagnoses overlap.  BPD is considered a severe personality disorder often caused by cumulative trauma experienced in early and middle childhood.  Carol the Coach will interview Geoff Goodman who not only is a CSAT but a proffessor of psychology. He will be explaining some of the symptoms of BPD which include frantic attempts to avoid abandonment, chronic feelings of emptiness, and impulsivity, which can include self-injurious behaviors and sexual promiscuity.  It is important that mental health professionals screen for BPD when they assess sex addicts and partners of sex addicts.  BPD is extremely challenging to treat in psychotherapy because patients diagnosed with BPD often attempt to push away their therapists with hostile behaviors.  Fortunately, there are several evidence-based treatment models for BPD that, when combined with a 12-step program for sex addiction or codependency, can help the patient to find a successful path of recovery.

    in Culture

DISCLAIMER: This is an open format show where topics on sexual assault will be discussed. We encourage any survivor who has experienced any similar situations to seek professional counseling in order to promote their personal healing process.

Silence is not always golden. Within our community lies an elephant in the room...a form of force and implementation of sexual bullying which attempts to render its victims as powerless. As the number of sexual assault cases rise, some wonder why the violators often go unpunished. Why aren't more women speaking out against such injustices? Does the violation of the body lead to a broken spirit? Is there strength after facing such an undesirable setting? What are some of the scenarios that create such a situation?

Tune in and listen to a story of strength and endurance...of self-preservation, self-worth, and self-actualization...and the aftermath that follows. We invite our listeners to call in and share your stories anonymously in the hopes of reaching someone who has not yet found their voice.

As a Coach, Kate supports and encourages men and women around the world as they navigate the confusing, sad, and often-scary world of sex addiction. Her diverse, 24-year Nursing background has laid the groundwork for understanding addiction as an illness.
