The Central Park 5 gets their settlememt $40 million!

Now middle-aged, the men were teens when they were arrested in 1989 amid a wave of corrosive and polarizing outrage over the savage rape of a 28-year-old woman. Convicted in 1990, Antron, Kevin, Raymond and Yusef were in prison just shy of seven years, while Kharey served nearly 13. The men, known as the Central Park Five, had been locked in a bitter battle with the city since filing civil rights lawsuits following their exoneration in 2002. Their convictions were vacated after career criminal Matias Reyes confessed to the brutal crime and DNA evidence backed up his claim. Is $40 Million enough??? The Texas Supreme Court in the matter of In Re Stephanie Lee recently ruled on an issue of enforceability of a Mediated Settlement Agreement. The Court: “We are called upon today to determine whether a trial court abuses its discretion in refusing to enter judgment on a statutory compliant mediated settlement agreement (MSA) based on inquiry into whether the MSA was in a child’s best interest. For federal employment tax purposes, workers are classified as either employees or independent contractors. Many business owners either mistakenly or purposely, for purposes of tax savings, mistreat their employees as independent contractors. In such a case, there is danger that the IRS will conduct an employment tax audit and retroactively change this classification. This could result in substantial employment tax liabilities for the company and its owners. Through the Voluntary Worker Classification Settlement Program, businesses meeting certain requirements can voluntarily admit that they have misclassified their workers, in which case their potential exposure is greatly reduced. This Podcast with Joshua Nesser will explore the Voluntary Worker Classification Settlement Program.
