The Labor Day 2015 broadcast of Gullah/Geechee Riddim Radio highlights the power of union from A. Phillip Randolph to self-determination! Each year hostess, Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) highlights the history of Labor Day and labor unions. On this broadcast, she focuses on the work done by the Pullman Car Porters and the growth and benefit of unions in the Black community. She interviews Union Delegate Kwame Sha of the 1199 SEIU to talk about unions and the battle to have and keep them as well as the history of the defeat of union organizing in the Gullah/Geechee Nation, but how that has not stopped Gullah/Geechee self-determination. Amy Alkon's Advice Goddess Radio: "Nerd Your Way To A Better Life!" with the best brains in science.
*"Best Of" replay for Thanksgiving weekend.
Stanton Peele points out that most people recover from addictions on their own -- without AA or rehab, and what makes the difference is values, not biology.
On tonight’s show, he’ll debunk many of the myths in addiction treatment -- especially the notion that addiction is a “disease” people are powerless to overcome. That defeatest message is especially counterproductive to overcoming addiction, and it’s been supported with bad science and hearsay. Join us tonight to hear what solid science says about how addiction or bad habits can be overcome -- to the point where people are not just going cold-turkey off some substance or behavior till their next relapse, but where they develop meaningful ways of coping that no longer have them turning to their old crutch.
Peele’s book we’ll be discussing is Recover! Stop Thinking Like an Addict and Reclaim Your Life with The PERFECT Program.
Join me and all my fascinating guests every Sunday, 7-8 p.m. PT, 10-11 p.m. ET, at blogtalkradio.com/amyalkon or subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher.
Please order my new book, the science-based and funny "Good Manners For Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck," -- only about $11 at Amazon.

Stewart Brand, founder of Whole Earth Catalog, once said that "The formula for an interesting life is skills - acquire them and use them. The more skills, the more interesting you become. Skills automatically give us pride and self confidence."
Using Stewart's formula, we will discuss how to develop self confidence skills as dynamic and interesting leaders.
As usual, we will also discuss two delicious recipes for sharing. The "safe" recipe will be Pasta Primavera, and the "adventure" recipe will be Smoked Salmon Casserole.

in Self Help
Do you incorporate fun in your daily life? Do you take a proactive role in your health? When was the last time you took a nap? Or, how about the last time you exercised your right to say, 'no'? Some feel it's taboo to put 'self' first. But, if 'self' isn't healthy and happy, then what we think we're giving to others is pretty much crumbs in comparison to what we could be giving - gifting.
Infinite Vibrations is honored and excited to talk with Anana Harris Parris about the movement she's pioneered and currently steering on behalf of Self Care. Take a listen. You may want to start moving with her. For more information, visit www.selfcareday.com and/or www.selfcareagency.com.
Many of us find ourselves repeating the same lesson(s) over and over again. Not to say that some lessons don't run like that, as they do. What I am referring to, are the ones in which you have not applied the lesson or are simply not aware that there is one. The idea or at least what I have come to understand, is to apply the lesson to your life by taking responsibility for what is or has occurred. By changing the re-action, emotion or thoughts connected to the experience and working diligently to see deeply that what is happening is not to your detriment. In fact it is the very way in which wisdom is obtained, faith is strengthened and dreams become reality. Once you realize, you are the common denominator; you then have the power to change your life. This is my story....
