This Poem was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven". The poem is about black mail.
Imagine creating thousands of uplifting letters and then mailing them to every newly diagnosed breast cancer patient all over the globe. Gina Mulligan has done just that! In fact, since 2011, she's collected over 8,000 letters from writers of all ages across the U.S. and into six foreign countries. Her ultimate goal is to reach the more than 250,000 U.S. women dignosed.
The spark for Gina's idea began while she was compiling letters for a novel in the works -- after her own batle with breast cancer. Family, friends and well-wishers sent cards and letters that Gina credits with "healing power" -- tangible bits of hope that she read and reread. She wanted to give the gift back. So, she created 'GIRLS LOVE MAIL," a charity that collects hand-written letters of encouragement to distribute to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients.
Gina's foundation has inspired groups of writers from book clubs, Girls Scouts, Sororities, and more. The motto is simple yet powerful: "Do your breast self-exam and if you don't find a lump, write a letter to someone who did." All that's required is a bit of time and a postage stamp. Costs to run the Girls Love Mail charity are met through a grant.
In addition to being a corporate trainer and speaker, Gina Mulligan is the author of a novel entitled Across the Room. She has published 100's of articles that have gained a spotlight in national magazines such as Ladies Home Journal, Home and Garden, AAA, and PC Computing.
Join us for this exciting hour about the world of difference one person can make in cancer patients' lives. Gina Mulligan will share the impact she's having around the globe, where she plans to take the healing power of words next, and tips to encourage cancer patients.
