Racism- Got To Treat The Cancer

    in Current Events

In the definition of “racism”, the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, to distinguish it as superior to another race is primary. Prejudice, discrimination, and antagonism directed against someone of a darker hue based on the belief that one's own race is superior has dominated the behavior of many Americans in the United States.

Racism has existed throughout human history- hatred of one person by another because of skin color, language and customs  influenced wars, promotion of slavery and the formation of nations. When Portuguese sailors first explored Africa in the 15th century, they came upon empires and cities as advanced as their own and they considered Africans to be serious rivals. Over time, as  European powers began to plunder the continent and forcibly remove its inhabitants to work as slave laborers in new colonies across the Atlantic, Africans came to be seen as a deficient "species," as "savages." This view was necessary to justify the slave trade at a time when Western culture had begun to promote individual rights and human equality.

Black people are seen by racists as merely subhuman, more like beasts than men. American scientists and philosophers devised a false racial "science" to "prove" the supremacy of non-Jewish whites. While the Nazi annihilation of Jews discredited most of these supposedly scientific efforts to elevate one race over another, small numbers of scientists and social scientists have continued throughout the 20th century to argue the inborn shortcomings of certain races, especially Black people.  What may seem to be significant "racial" differences to some people - skin color, hair, facial shape - are not of scientific significance.

Episode 277: Manpower, Modernization, and Motivation - an Hour with VADM Moran

    in Military

For the Sailor, nothing is more immediate, more "now" and of more impact to their personal and professional lives than their next set of orders.

For our Navy, nothing defines present operational performance, the development of future leaders, and ensuring success at war for the next few decades than personnel policy.

Our guest for the full hour this Sunday from 5-6pm Eastern will be the Chief of Naval Personnel, Vice Admiral Bill Moran, USN.

We will discuss the drive to man the Fleet to appropriate levels now, while looking at ways to modernize the personnel system to provide greater choice, flexibility and transparency for our Sailors and the commands they serve.

We will also look at the ongoing discussion about how to best keep with one hand a firm hand on what has worked, while with a free hand, reach for those things that will ensure that today's officers and enlisted personnel have a Navy that not only is meeting its needs, but takes in to consideration the individual goals and priorities of its personnel.

THE CANARY with Jacqueline T. Moore

    RECIPE FOR ADVENTURE

    1 spunky widow

    1 hateful church lady

    2 sailors & 1 checkerboard

    5 little darlin’s + I smarty stinker

Add 1 apron pocket full of jewels

Mix well and bake in the 1890’s Galveston heat

Myra Gallaway, a young widow with five children, supports her family by walking the wharves of Galveston selling homemade sweets. She never imagined she’d be joining forces with husband-hating church society queen, Julia Jameson. Myra’s apron pockets are soon filling up with the unspendables man smuggling sailor friends Sure Foot and Black Jack need to move. The Klondike gold fields are calling hapless dreamers and the boys are all about obliging them, yet everybody knows that a sailor cannot spend what he does not earn.

Some people call Jacqueline T. Moore a snowbird because she spends so much time writing in South Carolina. Not so. She loves the Ohio winters with all the ice and snow. She says, “Traveling south in the summer makes me a sunflower…and a beach bum!” As a writer and educator, Jacqueline surrounds herself with words. She savors the sounds and sense of letters put together to create a lasting memory. Her debut novel, THE CANARY, is inspired by a most beautiful yellow diamond that rests on her finger and the whispered family secrets about how it got there.

Sacred Sunday~Acts 27/St. Paul Sets Sail with a Wing and A Prayer

    in Paranormal

Welcome Church! We are here every Sunday to read the Bible, tell personal stories and pray together because when two or more are gathered.....In a non-judgemental down to earth format. God bless you every one!

Acts Chapter 27~Paul sets sails for Rome. Bon voyage!

He is put on a ship with other prisoners headed for Italy, but the journey isn't quick or easy. When the ship docks in Crete for a bit, Paul warns them not to go onto the island. For some odd reason, the soldiers and sailors don't listen to the criminal in their midst.

Once they set sail the winds pick up and things are not looking good. It's a northeaster and it rocks the ship around for days. Food and supplies run short. Everyone thinks they're gonna die.

Um, I told you so, Paul says. He explains that he saw a vision all about this. The good news is they're all gonna make it in one piece to Rome. The bad news is the ship is not. After fourteen days of storm and terror, the sailors think they might be near land, so some of them lower boats to escape the ship. As the sun is coming up, Paul offers everyone food. Apparently no one has eaten for fourteen days because they've been busy freaking out at sea. He breaks bread and gives thanks to God and then passes it out to everyone. Thanks so much to www.shmoop.com
