The Caregiver Space - A Safe Haven

    in Family

Caregivers are frequently so busy caring for others they risk neglecting their own physical, emotional, and spiritual health. The demands of caregiving can become overwhelming and lead to burnout. The symptoms of burnout are similar to the symptoms of depression: emotional and physical exhaustion, feeling irritable and helpless, changes in appetite, loss of interest in things once enjoyed. The best defenses: having a clear sense of one's role, realistic expectations, and a strong support network -- all of which can be hard to regularly attain.

But imagine if caregivers could connect and chat, day or night, with other caregivers That's The Caregiver Space, a virtual support network for family and professional caregivers, helping them manage and cope with ongoing challenges. The non-profit organization provides a sacred space where discussions flow openly, facilitated by experts who also reply to private messages. Personal blogs and expert health articles are free and accessible. Education is provided on a plethora of topics to include mental health, physical fitness, bereavement, relaxation and sleep. It all began through a visionary caregiver, Adrienne Gruberg.

Adrienne became a constant caregiver to both her husband, diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005, and his mother, who at the age of ninety in 2007, was diagnosed with lymphoma and went to live with her son and daughter-in-law in New York City. As a result of the crisis, she is the proud Founder and President of The Caregiver Space.

Adrienne Gruberg is also Owner and President of Cable Access Network and a television studio in Manhattan, where she will be producing the "spin-off" video channel of the site. Join us to hear how one woman's quest to do good is enriching caregivers lives around the world.

NASA Social is the next evolution in the agency’s social media efforts. Formerly called NASA Tweetup, NASA Social program includes both special in-person events and social media credentials for individuals who share the news in a significant way. This program has brought thousands of people together for unique social media experiences of exploration and discovery."

Please join me and my guest host and fellow NASA Social Alum Kathie Hagen as we talk about our experiences at NASA Social Events, the awesomeness of Hubble and it's successor, the James Webb Space Telescope, the future of space exploration and use of social media in generating public interest.

How much for open space & remembering veterans

    in News

The question of how much money to raise through the Open Space tax is a perennial topic in Bergen County. It came up again last week when the Freeholders voted to keep the tax at its current rate of one-quarter cent per $100 of assessed valuation. However, County Administrator Dominic Novelli left the door open to perhaps raising it next year.

In this segment of Record Talk Radio, Novelli talks about the administration's position on the tax. Freeholder David Ganz also weighs in on why he feels that amount is insufficient, given the county's needs.

In the second segment, Retired Marine Captain Ben Cascio talks about what it was like to be asked to give the keynote speech at Friday's Military Appreciation ceremony.
