FINAL Wet Your Whistle Episode - Don't yuck my rum - Zacapa!

    in Lifestyle

Sadly, all good things must come to an end.  Yet what better way to bring our Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series to a close than with the Brand Ambassador of the premier rum company, Zacapa!  On Wednesday, December 17th at noon Lynnette Marrero will introduce us to the first rum to be inducted into the International Rum Festival’s Hall of Fame.

This honor may have something to do with the fact that Zacapa is aged in “The House Above the Clouds,” a facility 7,544 feet above sea level in the highlands of Guatemala.  The naturally thinner air and lower atmospheric pressure of this unique location intensifies the infusion of flavors into the barrels.  This is not the only thing that makes Zacapa’s creation process surprisingly unique.  Instead of using traditional molasses as a base, Zacapa is made from concentrated first press of sugar cane, called virgin sugar cane honey, and a specialized strain of yeast extracted from pineapples.

Clearly, there is nothing typical about the way in which this rum is made, nor in the way that it tastes.  Tune in this Wednesday to hear more about how this company has made their rum EXTRA-ordinary.

EverydayKC - Yo Ho Ho & A Cake Full Of Rum!

    in Food

Craig Adcock, is typically called “the rum cake guy who barbecues” or “the BBQ master who makes a rum cake.” But, Craig jokingly refers to himself as the “only non-catering caterer” he knows.

He’s cooked for the Food Network’s South Beach Food and Wine Festival beside personalities like Emeril Lagasse, Guy Fieri, Morimotto, and several of the top BBQ talents across the nation, as well as, grilled on the course for the Playboy Golf tournament, backstage for Elton John concerts, and Craig once fired up the grills and 600 lbs. of meat at the SXSW Music Festival. Our show guest remains as down to earth as they come... with a pinch of crazy!

Craig, the creator of Jude’s Rum cakes and BellyUpBBQ Spices, talks about one the crazy fun favorite holiday events here in Kansas City, Holiday Mart.

Join Rachel and Stacey as Craig “makes them” drink Old New Orleans Rum and eat rum cakes at 10 in the morning!

Just another fun show from EverydayKC.

RumRadio Interview with Mike C (Rowdy Rum)

    in Spirituality

My name is Mike C and I am an alcoholic from Washougal Washington. I am 64 years old and have been sober for 27 years, since the day I came out of treatment in 1986 I have been right in the middle of Alcoholics Anonymous. I am what one would call a big book thumper as it is not been necessary for me to try any other methods to get and stay sober. I am still very active in sponsoring other alcoholics and have been given a life beyond what I probably deserve.

I quit drinking when I was 37 years old and retired when I was 50. I owned my own company and I applied a great deal of what I've learned in Alcoholics Anonymous to how I ran that company. It was because of that change in my business model that I was fortunate to be able to retire as young as I did. I now live a very peaceful life on a small river in the mountains of the Columbia River Gorge with my wife Traci and our two dogs. I have three wonderful children and six grandchildren all of whom live close enough that I see them regularly.

My children all watched me get sober and they know what it looks like to have a drunken dad versus a sober dad. I have been blessed.
