Other People's Money - Part I
The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. During this pre-recorded show we’ll deal with one of the most contentious debates – Should I pay off my mortgage early? If not, then how should I invest that money? And this topic is directly related to some of the most common questions we get: Is there good debt, or is all debt bad? What is the highest return guaranteed investment? Should I ignore the financial advice I got from my parents & grandparents? Where will I get the money for a down payment or to invest in a new business? What's the source of some of these commonly held beliefs?
This show will take some listeners outside of their comfort zone, since we’ll be challenging their long held beliefs. Long held beliefs are just like habits we’ve developed over many years. We don’t question why we do what we’ve always done, unless someone points out the benefits of changing, or the risks of continuing. The key question you should consider during this show: Would I rather be debt free, or financially free?
We’ve tried to anticipate & answer your key questions, since you won’t be able to ask them during this show. This show was originally recorded on July 11, 2011, against a backdrop of Declaring Independence. Are you ready to Declare Financial Independence? If so grab a cup of coffee, tea, glass of wine, or your favorite beverage and join us for the Other People’s Money – Part I ...

State of the Housing Market - The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. During this show our returning guest Michael Orr will help educate us on a major asset class, which affects each of us whether we invest in residential real estate, we own a home, or we rent. I've said before that once housing prices start to rise rapidly, we can expect housing to be kicked out of the US CPI just like food & energy. Although as far as I know, we don't have a single listener who can avoid eating, consuming energy, and living somewhere !
It's been a full 3 years since we had Michael Orr on the show, and I forget that most listeners don't have regular access to the information he provides in the Cromford Report and as Director of the Real Estate Center Theory & Practice at the WP Carey School of Business at Arizona State University (ASU). So you may not know that his prediction on the housing market bottom, the rapid rise, and the plateau in prices starting late in 2013 happened just as he stated. I can assure you, he's not like one of the talking heads just sharing his opinion ... he bases his predictions on facts and trends. And no one has better data on housing than he does.
So has the resurgence of housing prices just begun? Are we in another bubble? And what are the indicators he suggests we use to navigate this important asset class? We'll cover these topics and many more, so prepare your questions for THE expert, grab a cup of coffee, tea, glass of wine, or your favorite beverage and join us for the State of the Housing Market ...
Afford the Good Life - The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. One of the basic questions we should ask ourselves periodically: Why do I Invest? Although each of us may have slightly different reasons, there appear to be 2 common responses.
1. To continue to afford the good life after I stop working, and 2. I have to !
Even if we're frugal and avid savers, putting our savings into a bank account, safe or in a tin can buried underground, we won't be increasing our net worth. By saving AND investing we're able to build wealth much faster. Early in our career savings will be the most important contributor, and as our nest egg grows, our investing and compounding can add far more to our net worth than our savings.
This all sounds so logical, when you're in the group well on their way to becoming wealthy, and having the good life throughout their lives. For those in the rat race group struggling to accumulate enough each month to make their monthly payments, this good life is merely a theoretical discussion. What are the key differences between these 2 groups? Is it their habits we discussed recently? Could it be their level of Financial Literacy? Is it their mindset? Education level? Or is it their employer who decides their fate as to which group they are destined for?
Our special guest Richard Melancon will shed some light on the topic, help answer these questions, and provide some tips to avoid bankruptcy and exit the rat race. Who knows - he may even share some strategies for saving on taxes. Richard Melancon is a CPA, Business Consultant, Professional Speaker & Author of 3 books. We'll be focusing on his first book: You Can Afford the Good Life. His other books focus on helping companies & managers to implement best practices used by effective businesses.
Escaping Oz - The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. Although what does the Land of Oz or the Wizard of Oz have to do with saving & investing? If Dorothy & Toto in that classic tale, were escaping poverty in the Land of Oz, the connection would be more obvious - but they weren't.
Our special guest Jim Mosquera will clarify what we're escaping from and why he helped us chose this show title. Jim is a Principal at Sentinel Consulting, and operates The Sentinal, an economic and financial web-site. In addition to being a frequent contributor to various publications on economic and financial topics, he's an Author of two books on "E$caping Oz".
Few people were expecting a global recession of the magnitude we experienced in 2007 – 9 and very few were able to escape unscathed from the wide-spread and devastating destruction of capital. Did you survive and thrive so that you'll be able to endure another devastating recession if it comes in the near future? Was your portfolio properly positioned to grow during the last 10 years? Are you properly positioned for the next decade? These are difficult questions and we'll be asking our guest to help us navigate through the choppy waters that we will face sometime in the future. So prepare your questions and join the conversation …
Rich Habits - The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. During this show our guest will definitely help educate savers & investors on what good habits and bad habits they have. Have you heard the old adage "Understanding the Problem is half the Solution"? Certainly each of us can find examples of what others are doing wrong & what they should do differently. But it's much harder when the "other person" is the one we see in the mirror! So why not analyze many different people - some Rich and others Poor, and see what we can learn from them?
To save you a lot of time, we decided to bring on a guest who has already done that research. More importantly he's analyzed their habits and documented them so we can see our similarities and differences with theirs. Given a choice – I certainly would prefer to develop the Habits of the Rich, and eliminate the habits I share with Poor. Our guest Thomas C Corley is a CPA, a Financial Planner, and CEO of the Rich Habits Institute. He is passionate about financial independence, and trains businesses, individuals, and students to become financially successful. Thomas C Corley is also the author of the #1 Bestseller Rich Habits - The Daily Success Habits of Wealthy Individuals.
So if you'd like to learn more about the person you see in the mirror - you won't want to miss the show. So prepare your questions, grab a cup of coffee, tea, glass of wine, or your favorite beverage and join us for some great tips on developing Rich Habits
Investor Behavior - The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. It's been quite a while since we talked about the 2nd Commandment of Investing - so it's time to do it again. Many people spend more time planning their vacation than they do analyzing their portfolio. How about you? Do you know which investment decisions were good, which were bad, and which were ugly? What were the factors that inspired each of those decisions? Are you being to conservative? Or maybe taking on too much risk?
Why do we make the investment decisions we do? Is it bad advice, the wrong advisors, or is it our decision methodology? Certainly there must be some research to help us understand why we and others behave as we do! Yes - there is, and we've invited Prof. Victor Ricciardi to join us. He's a leading expert on the academic literature and emerging research issues in behavioral finance. Now you might be wondering what behavioral finance has to do with your portfolio decisions? Well that's one of the many topics we’ll cover - so join the conversation …
Invest with the Fed ! The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. During this show our guest will definitely help educate savers & investors and share a few great insights in the process. Have you heard the old adage "Don't fight the Fed"? What exactly does that phrase mean? What strategy would be in sync with the current Fed tea leaves, and which would fight the Fed? Maybe you're just "Fed Up" with all the talking heads telling you what the latest cryptic Fed phrases mean.
Well we sensed our listeners frustration, and decided to bring on an expert on reading those Fed tea leaves. Our guest Robert R. Johnson was recently named as the President and CEO of The American College. More importantly for this topic, Dr. Johnson has spent years researching the effect of Fed policy on portfolio performance. As a matter fact he's written the book on it: Invest with the Fed with the help of two colleagues. If you haven't heard of the book yet – don't feel bad it's just being released ! You won't even have to stand in line at the bookstore to be among the first to take advantage of some of their sage advice ... you can just tune in to Wealth DNA radio in the comfort of your office, home, or car. So grab a cup of coffee, tea, glass of wine, or your favorite beverage and join us for some great tips on investing in sync with the Fed …

Obama Care - DOA! - The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. During this show we'll be focusing on the recently mandated health insurance in the US. Certainly some people are glad to have insurance, others happy to get subsidies financed by "the Rich". Others are frustrated by the tax penalties for self-insuring. Putting aside the politics ... what was the rationale for this new legislation? How will it impact the quality of health care? Will it meet it's promise to slow the increase in health care costs? What are the benefits for us? What are the negatives?
We will have Dr. Mark Davis, MD as our special guest to answer your burning questions about the officially named Affordable Care Act (ACA). Dr. Davis practiced Internal Medicine for 30 years, specializing in geriatrics and nutrition. He's a family man with 3 children, and President of Davis Writing Services. Dr. Davis gained notoriety as an author with nearly 400 articles in print, and 3 books: The Millennium Diet, Demons of Democracy, and Obamacare: Dead on Arrival.
Tune in for this candid discussion and the answers to your questions about the effects of this far reaching legislation – grab a cup of coffee, or glass of wine and join the conversation …
Nutrition for the Mind! - The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. During this show we'll be focusing on the "D" in Wealth DNA, specifically your mindset toward money management. Are you focused on having money to spend today, or on building long-term wealth? Are you already convinced you'll be wealthy? Or are you convinced that it's not possible? The answers to these questions might be among the best indicators of your future wealth !
Our guest will be Kieron Sweeney, a truly international speaker, business coach, digital entrepreneur and author. He will be sharing with us 'Life's Golden Buckets', a money management system he developed. Using that system he was able to generate wealth over a short 8 year period. Do you think it would be better to wait until retirement to implement these concepts, or to start 20 years ago? Why is accumulating wealth like planting shade trees? How has Kieron managed to train 500,000 entrepreneurs?
For the answers to these and many more questions – grab a cup of coffee, or glass of wine and join the conversation …
Investment (aka Mutual) Funds ! The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. During this show our guest will definitely help educate savers & investors and share a few great tips in the process. How are you currently investing your money? Are your retirement funds predominantly in investment/mutual funds? Is all or a portion of your portfolio managed by someone else? Nearly half of US households own investment funds, so we assume most of our listeners do. Is that a good thing?
There has been a lot written about the performance of actively managed vs. passively managed investment funds, and we can't seem to get a definitive answer. So what can we do? We decided to get to the bottom of it by bringing in Prof. David Nanigian of The American College to share his perspective based on extensive research. After all, he should know and be unbiased, since he teaches financial advisors about these investment funds. If you missed our prior show on Indexed CD's when Prof. Nanigian was our guest, you just might want to listen to that discussion too.
Since we have an expert on Investment/Mutual Funds as our guest, we'll also dig into more detail about how to take advantage of alpha, beta, as well as ETF's which are often based on index funds. If your financial advisor tends to obfuscate even the simplest topics to make it seem that you couldn't be successful without their help - you just might bring them back down to earth after tuning into this show ! So grab a cup of coffee, or glass of wine and join us for some fun and financial education …
Rich is a State of Mind ! The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. During this show our guest will definitely share some great tips as well as help educate savers & investors. We're still in the first month of the year, and many people have still not written down their New Years resolutions, while many others have already forgotten about theirs, and returned to business as usual. Are you well on your way to becoming Wealthy? Are there some obstacles on that path? Is your level of Wealth DNA high enough to make it to your ultimate goal?
For those who have not yet achieved financial independence, or concerned you'll never make it – our guest will share some down home common sense suggestions. As most of us have noticed, Voltaire was right - common sense is not as common as it used to be ! Very often financial advisors recommend complicated investments to make it seem that you couldn't be successful without their help. During this show we'll step back to some of the fundamentals and basics of investing. We'll also hear some good financial New Year's resolutions ... regardless of where you are on your journey to becoming wealthy/
Our special guest is Robert Gignac, Owner of Taynac & Associates, and author of the best selling book "Rich is a State of Mind". This book is in a rare breed, written as a novel, and thus uses a story to explain what many people consider a dry and complicated topic. If you've started to read many books on finance, and only finished the ones written as stories: "The Richest man in Babylon" and maybe "Rich Dad - Poor Dad", this book should be on your reading list this year. So grab a cup of coffee, or glass of wine and join us for some fun and financial education…
What will 2015 bring? - The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, as well as educating savers & investors. The beginning of every New Year is a great time to reflect on what transpired last year, and prepare for what's likely to happen in the upcoming 12 months of your life. The easiest prediction to make is that recent trends will continue for another year. It's much harder to foresee turning points, especially those the majority of investors say won't happen. So what happens to your portfolio and income if you stay the course and some of these turning points occur? Very likely you'll lose money, or miss out on some great opportunities to earn far more.
Our returning guest H.L. Quist (aka the Myth Buster) has an excellent track record of predicting these turning points by following many trends & connecting seemingly unrelated events. Given his track record in predicting market cycles, what questions would you want to ask him? Are you excited or worried about the dramatic decline in oil prices? Depending on where you live you may be concerned about the buying power of your local currency, since some Central Banks are slowing down their printing presses while others are investing in more paper, ink, and asset repurchases. What would happen if your portfolio if both the 6 year bull market in equities & 35 year bull market in bonds suddenly reversed? What hedges do you have in place?
This show should be at or near the top of your New Year priorities, and during the hour we just might suggest a few more priorities! So if you've lived to see 2015, don't miss this show ! Grab a cup of coffee, or glass of wine and join the conversation …
