Hosts Rev. Terence Dicks and Mike Hersh talk with Rio Tazewell about the Democracy for All Amendment and how it will get money out of politics.
Rio Tazewell is the Government by the People campaign coordinator at People For the American Way (PFAW). In his role he coordinates with other organizations to raise awareness about the importance of getting big money out of politics.
PDA and PFAW supports a range of policy solutions to address this problem, including a constitutional amendment to overturn Supreme Court decisions such as Citizens United v FEC. His position of campaign coordinator consists of coalition organizing, legislative advocacy and strategic communication. PFAW is a progressive advocacy group based in Washington, DC.
As we continue on with this robotics season one of the interviews I wanted to make sure to capture was really more of an update show. Last year I spoke with John Reed, who told the story of the growth of FIRST robotics in Del Rio, TX which is a small Texas border town. The reason I wanted to bring John back on the show was because between this year and last year there has been what I’ll call an explosion in the amount of interest and robotics teams along the border. I like to think of John who is a teacher and robotics coach at Del Rio Middle School as the spark that has lit the fuse of this new growth.

The University of Rio Grande's Fine Woodworking program prepares and enlightens students with the skills necessary to be successful woodworkers. These skills will be developed in a "hands on" experience where most of the students' time is spent in the shop building fine furniture. The program operates like a professional, custom furniture shop using machine for dimensioning stock and increasing efficiency. Hand tools are used to cut fine joinery and create the many fine details that machines can't duplicate.
The FW program design and build jigs to use with the table saw, shaper, and other machines to increase safety and production. Dovetail joinery, turning, carving, and other visual details are done by hand. We feel that learning this balance between hand tools and machinery is the key to making fine furniture.
The program offers a one-year certificate and a two-year Associate's Degree. The FW classes, along with courses in math, science, and communications greatly increase the marketability of graduates of the Fine Woodworking program.

Who is Rio Jonz? Well, if I knew that with clarity I would share. As it stands now I am a 45 year old man with an action-packed novel. But before this project I was a man without direction. Oh, I worked as a barber off and on for over 30 years in Compton, California. I'm a part-time daddy, because my marriage blew up in my face. And I'm also the go-to man when people need a good listener, or some advice on how to deal with life's issues. No degrees in these areas, though. I guess people just think I'm that approachable. All-in-all readers, I wish I could accommodate the world with their issues in life. Not quite possible with just little ol' me, so I choose to entertain in the form of a tome. Hopefully, what I write will spotlight this fact: In spite of, we are all people dealing with life the same. Just on different levels. My mother started the 65' Watts Riot, and the village that raised me were, lets just say, "Eclectic." So, the cards that I was dealt in life are different. And yet, I deal with them in similar fashion as everyone else.
Rio Scafone joins us ON THE DEAN'S LIST. She is best known as the hard workin, hard singin' lead vocalist for Rio & The Rockabilly Revival. Rio's appearance is to celebrate the release of the band's new album, RUNAWAY TRAIN, which will be relased as part of a three group mega release party on August 23rd. This kicks off a whirlwind tour that will see the group as a part of the Woodward Dream Cruise, and in venues throughout the region playing the roots rock which has made them in demand. Her vocal presence draws upon gospel, rockabilly, hard rock and country to produce a dynamic sound all her own. Meld this with the power packed musicianship of The Rockabilly Revival, and you have an engine more powereful than those coming off one of the Detroit car-maker's assembly lines. Born into rock 'n' roll royalty, Rio came up under her famous uncle, rockabilly pioneer Jack Scott, and carries on the family tradition of serving up spitfire Roots Rock 'n' Roll.
