Ever been a millionaire? Ever beat up Evander Holyfield … twice? Ever been the heavyweight champion of the world? Well, today’s guest has done all of the above and he’s got a relationship story to tell too. Stay tuned as we spend an hour with Riddick “Big Daddy” Bowe … on Frank Relationships.
Bowe Robert Bergdahl is a United States Army soldier who was held captive by the Taliban-aligned Haqqani network in Afghanistan.
Bowe Robert Bergdahl was born in Sun Valley, Idaho, on March 28th, 1986 – the same day as Lady Gaga, as his parents like to point out
At 20, Bowe in search of the kind of boy's adventure decided to join the French Foreign Legion, but his application was rejected.
Spring 2008 joined army
May 23rd, 2009. What started as an eight-hour mission, ended up taking five days.
In early June, 2009 after photographs taken by Sean Smith appeared in The Guardian, Bowe's unit got reamed out by its commander for its lack of discipline. Bowe's squad leader, Sgt. Greg Leatherman, was demoted, and two other sergeants in the squad were reassigned.
June 25th, 2009 - Bowe's battalion suffered its first casualty of the deployment. A popular officer, 1st Lt. Brian Bradshaw, was killed in a blast from a roadside bomb near the village of Yaya Kheyl, not far from the outpost. Though Bradshaw was in a different company, the 24-year-old's death rocked the unit, shattering the sense of invulnerability that accompanies those who have just arrived in country. Bowe's father believes that Bradshaw and Bowe had grown close at the National Training Center, and his death darkened his son's mood.
June 27th,2009 he sent what would be his final e-mail to his parents. It was a lengthy message documenting his complete disillusionment with the war effort.
early-morning hours of June 30th, 2009 He gathered up water, a knife, his digital camera and his diary. Then he slipped off the outpost.
On 10:30 a.m. (EDT) May 31, 2014, Bergdahl was handed over by 18 Taliban members to a special operations team in eastern Afghanistan, near Khost on the Pakistani border, in what was described as a "peaceful handover".
“Compared to hell of the real wars of the past, we are nothing but camping boy scots. Hiding from children behind our heavy armored trucks and our c-wire and sand bagged operating post, we tell our selves that we are not cowards . . . ”
~ Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl ~
“Bullet sponges,” he wrote at one point. “This is what some of the SEALs call regular Army and other mass ground troops. Its right, the job of a soldier is to basically die.” ~ Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl ~
I thought we support the troops? When did Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl stop being a troop?

Something seemed fishy right away about the Bowe Bergdahl trade for five Gitmo detainees. Now with each passing day it is becoming obvious that our president lied to us (shock!), that Bergdahl hardly served with "honor and distinction," and that Americans are less safe now with five dangerous terrorists out of prison. As the questions go unanswered, now the progress our military earned in Iraq is unraveling as terrorists steamroll the Iraqi military. Did Obama leave too soon? Did Joe Biden bungle the status of forces agreement? We will discuss all angles of both stories.
Can anyone contextualize rape? Apparently, if you are a proponent of White Privilege Theory, apparently you can. We will be discussing the latest battle in the War on Women today.
Also, TLFR welcomes Elaine Riddick from The Rebbeca Project for Justice back to the program. New details on the class-action lawsuit for women harmed by Depo-Provera have emerged, and news about the emerging global use of Depo-Provera have recently come to light. Elaine will be revealing for us the long-term detriment of Depo use and what has happened in areas of the world like Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
We also welcome Toronto resident Luis Dizon to the show. Canada has its own March for Life and political struggles with legal abortion. We will be exploring more about how abortion is being protested by people of conscience to the north of us, Canadian style.
At the intersection of policy, history and politics, waiting in the darkest recesses of the Tea Party vs. GOP no-man's-land, is Radio Free America!
Many Americans had forgotten, over the last five years, that the taliban were holding U.S. Army private Bowe Bergdahl, now a sergeant. He's back in our hands now...but who did we have to give up? Did we trade a king, a queen, two bishops and a knight for a pawn?
Meanwhile, back on Capitol Hill, former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was defeated in Tuesday's primary, and resigned from his leadership position earlier today. Is this a signal that the Tea Party is gaining strength?
