The aging market is "booming"! As our population ages, new businesses are being created to cater to the 50+ community. My guest today is Judi Bonilla. Judi develops and teaches innovative programs for aging adults. This rapidly growing demographic is expected to grow from 43 million in 2012 to nearly 84 million over the next four decades. In 2012 there were 43.1 million Americans age 65 and over, by 2020 that number will increase to 55 million. In 2040 the age 85+ population is projected to reach 14.1 million.
Judi’s community based programs include Brain Fit Now, Come Back Cupid, Empowered In Aging, Latino Elders, and We Get Around! educate, empower, and inspire life long learners to thrive as they age. Through these classes elders connect with resources and build community as they pursue their goal to age in place.

What if we could change the experience -- and perhaps the progression -- of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia by redesigning the environment? What if a bridge literally existed between design and perception? According to Steve Orfield, it's possible, given a growing body of research suggesting that aging and decline are two separate processes. He founded Orfield Laboratories (OL) over 40 years ago, and has since turned his interest in perception and measurement towards developing multi-disciplinary subjective-objective architectural and product research lab. He recently shared his philosophy about "User Experience" at the Innovations Summit with the Florida Council on Aging among others, he's authored numerous research projects, designed the "quietest room on earth" and created the nation's first research based design architectual collaboration (with firms across the U.S. and Canda).
Steve's passion for developing new "perceptually clear and comfortable" standards for seniors was born in caregiving for his elderly father as a nursing home resident. For the same total cost of such "typical" environments, Orfield Laboratories is providing the highest level of comfort and preference, while building on precise measurement and evaluation. "You actually have to test the older population and have them repeat what they have seen or heard, because elderly persons are far less inclined to complain or to highlight their age-related disabilities," he says.
Steve Orfield shares the hopeful ways objective architecture is working to mediate, reduce, and reverse some aging-related decline.

John C. Robinson, Ph.D., D.Min. is a clinical psychologist with a second doctorate in ministry, an ordained interfaith minister, the author of seven books on the interface of psychology and spirituality, and last but not least, an aging Boomer with grown children and a gaggle of grandchildren. His professional work specialized in midlife, men's issues, the integration of psychotherapy and spirituality, the nature of first-hand mystical experience, the psychology and spirituality of aging, and the archetypal revelations of myth and fairytale.
A full time writer now, John's recent works include a memoir/narrative on the transformation potential of aging (The Three Secrets of Aging), a collection of fairy tales for Elders (Bedtime Stories for Elders: What Fairy Tales Can Teach Us About the New Aging), and a forthcoming work on a new myth for aging men (What Aging Men Want: Homer's Odyssey as a Parable of Male Aging). HIs work, endorsed by an amazing array well-known authors (e.g., Robert Bly, John Gray, Angeles Arrien, Matthew Fox, Bernie Siegel, Robert Johnson), revisions aging as time of remarkable psychological and spiritual growth if we can understand its dynamics and purpose. It may in fact represent a process of gradual enlightenment.

Today on The Middle Men Talk Show, we will be discussing the aspect of role reversal in relationships leading up to reasons why some people may be single. Role reversal is defined as a circumstance wherein two people adopt the opposite role of their normal or switch normal roles. With that being said, you have men who are not taking on the role of being the man and you have women who are taking on this role. You have some women who have been putting on this role of being the man that when they get with another man and she may feel he is not man enough for her. Nowadays, you have women who are the players, men are the ones getting played. When meeting someone both parties have to establish who they are in the relationship. If this does not occur, then you may not get out what you put in!!
How does role reversal impact reasons why someone is single? Where does role reversal stem from that causes a person to be single? How should a man and a woman establish their role of being a man and a woman? and should we be confined to our genders stereotype? Is there a double edged sword in a relationship when some women are more masculine and some men are more feminine in that relationship? Is role reversal a taught and learned behavior? Why do some people continue to allow their past hurt determine why they have to switch roles in their future relationships?
