The African American Biography Series of 2013 is Intelligent Radio on Blogtalkradio. I'm your host, Laura Gall (mae510). My show is "You Talk Too Much". Tonight's segment of Black History on Internet radio brings to you the life of Mr. Count Basie. William "Count" Basie was born on August 21, 1904. He was an American jazz pianist, organist, bandleader and composer. His mother paid 25 cents a lesson to have him taught piano. He started performing while still in his teens. He dropped out of school, learned to operate lights for vaudeville and to improvise accompaniment for silent films at a local movie theater in his home town of Red Bank, N.J. By 16, he increasingly played jazz piano at parties, resorts and other venues. In 1924, he went to Harlem, where his performing career expanded and the rest is History. The information contained in this show comes to you from Wikipedia as well as from Count Basie's Bio contained in the Count Basie Threatre's Website. My call in number is 1-714-242-5273. Thank you so much for listening.
