Episode 94, The Rising Apple Report: Camp Bravado is open for business

    in Sports

The caleder still says February, the temperature in the northeast is still below freezing, and for many the winter snow has been relentless.  However, nothing advertises a changing of the season quite like Spring Training.

Port St. Lucie is finally open for business.  All position players were due by Tuesday, and today marked the first day of full squad workouts.

Over the winter, the Mets contracted a strong case of confidence.  Tonight's 94th episode of the Rising Apple Report will swing the gates open to Camp Bravado, and debate the merits of their words.

If the Mets indeed seem emboldened to you, perhaps the return of Matt Harvey is one reason why.  On March 6th, he will tentatively take the mound and face live competition for the first time since 2013.

Also up for discussion are the potential crowding of the bullpen and a lack of another lefty, Lucas Duda's injury, the never ending quest to rectify shortstop, the 1994 regular season, and much more.

Rising Apple staff writer Rich Sparago will host this evening's discussion, and will be joined by fellow staff writer Michael Lecolant.  As always, you are most welcome to call the show and join the conversation.

The number is 646-929-0337.  The show starts at 9:00pm (EST) sharp.

Epidode 91 - The Rising Apple Report: A Winter of Dissatisfaction?

    in Sports

The Mets hot stove is failing to generate sufficient heat.  That's the sentiment among a growing number of fans.

While the N.L. East has worked itself into a trading frenzy this winter, the Mets lone off-season acquisition remains outfielder Michael Cuddyer.

With a shortstop situation screaming for resolution, and a need for a lefty in the bullpen, Mets boosters are growing increasingly perturbed with the lack of front office activity.

Clearly then, ownership's financial straits continue to hamper team operations.  Ticket prices are rumored to be going up this coming season, yet, there's been no uptick in payroll.

How is it possible then, Fred Wilpon was named to head Major League Baseball's finance committee?

Tonight, the 91st episode of the Rising Apple Report will try and make sense of it all.  Rich Sparago will host what is sure to be a spirited roundtable discussion, and will be joined by fellow Rising Apple staff writers Michael Lecolant and Kevin Baez.

Joining the crew to share his insights will be special guest, John Coppinger, from MetstradamusBlog.com.

Tonight's opening pitch is at 9:00pm (EST) sharp.

Of course, we'd love to have you call in as well.  Please do, at 646-929-0337.

Ep #92 - The Rising Apple Report: 21 Days till Pitchers and Catchers

    in Sports

    Let the countdown begin!

Pitchers and catchers report to camp on February 19th, and the first full squad workout is scheduled for February 26th.

Until then, it's time to heave another log into the old Hot Stove.

Michael Lecolant will be hosting tonight's 92nd episode of the Rising Apple Report.  Joining him from the RA staff will be the Converted Mets Fan, Sam Maxwell.

Their guests will include Stephen Keane from KranepoolSociety.com, and John Pielli, host of the Passed Ball Show at JohnPielli.com.

Sandy Alderson still has work to do.  That will kick off the evening's discussion.

If his mind is truly focused on contending in 2015, he'd still be trying to resolve an unsatisfactory situation at shortstop, pursuing another established left-hander for the bullpen, and avoiding a logjam in the starting rotation.

They'll also discuss the appearance of six Mets on Keith Law's top 100 prospects list, and the interview that took place between Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and Commissioner Robert Manfred regarding the Wilpons financial condition.

The show kicks off at 9:00pm (EST) sharp.

As always, your participation is most welcome.  Please call the Rising Apple Report at 646-929-0337.

The Rising Apple Report: Episode #93 - Two Weeks Left Till Pitchers and Catchers

    in Sports

With two weeks remaining before pitchers and catchers are due to report, the New York Mets still have unsettled business.

The failure to trade Dillon Gee thus far poses a log jam in the starting rotation, and potentially crowds the bullpen with yet another right-hander.  Unless something changes, it seems then, southpaw Josh Edgin is destined for an abusive workload.

Meanwhile, the general manager down ticked his personal expectations this season by one game, to 89 victories, yet is formulating a tentative plan to monitor Matt Harvey's innings in order to have him pitch into October.  In much clearer terms, Terry Collins is also making pretty bold playoff predictions for the upcoming season.

The 93rd episode of the Rising Apple Report will discuss these matters, and more.  Hosting this evening's roundtable discussion will be Rich Sparago.  He will be joined by fellow staff writers Michael Lecolant and Chris Schubert.

Tonight's special guest will be Greg Prince, from FaithAndFearInFlushing.com.

They'll also discuss the recent departure of SNY's pre and post game analyst, Bobby Ojeda, and of course, revisit the 1993 regular season.

The show starts at 9:00pm (EST) sharp.  You're always welcome to call and join the discussion.  The number to dial is 646-929-0337.

    Rising From The Ashes

    in Christianity

When a blazing inferno or fire occurs it often leaves behind a great heap of ashes left for the clean-up crew. And so ashes seem useless and nothing good coming from it. Or take for example our own brokenness and sense of loss and despair, some think life is over, game over. Its in divorce, difficult relationships, or just hanging on to a particular sin and identifying with it instead of Christ. Perhaps your own sin has torn apart your relationships. And so all happens at once with no end in sight, goes down hill from there, loss of home, job, family and other possessions. What good can come from that? How does one become strong through a battle with cancer, or a family member who is very ill? A closer look and one could think God is picking on them. But what if God is already at work behind the scenes creating a masterpiece to be used for His purpose only? To turn your brokenness into wholeness,  It seems that only through difficulty, trial and dark despair that God can use us the most, because in all that mess there is a sparkling "diamond in the rough" rising from the ashes.
