A PROTECTION ORDER FOR FIDO? THIS COULD BE BIG!
People who know about domestic violence know how animals are often victims of abusers, and animals are often reasons women find it difficult to get away from an abusive situation. If someone says they will kill the dog if you leave, you think twice about leaving.
Rep. Liz Vazquez (R) of Alaska understands how domestic violence works. She knows abusers use every trick in the book, every controlling thing they can think of to keep their victims under their thumbs. That’s why she is sponsoring Alaska HB 147. The bill would allow courts to include animals in a protective order, which means that if the protection order is violated, there are consequences for the abuser just as if he violated a protection against the human being protected. Think of the possibilities such a bill could have, not only for protecting pets, but also for helping victims and their children.
Rep. Vazquez was born in New York, went to law school at Cornell, served as an administrative law judge and was an assistant attorney general and prosecutor. The first co-sponsor of the bill is Rep. Max Gruenberg (D), who has been an Alaska State representative for 20 years, a decorated veteran of the US Navy, who graduated from Stanford and the UCLA Law School. They are just two representatives at the forefront in what is a law that could have great benefits for victims of domestic violence.
Join both representatives on Saturday at 11 am Pacific Time to find out more about this proposed legislation, and to talk with the representatives sponsoring it.

In order to protect yourself from transactions which occur during the course of your business, every contract you enter into on behalf of your business should be in writing in order to cement the terms of the contract in a form that is less susceptible to dispute. In this show, Bill and Rick discuss how you can be more assured of what you bargained for and therefore make yourself less likely to expose your assets to loss, should a “contrived” dispute arise.

LYNDA L. SANDS (formerly Moerschbaecher)
Lynda L. Sands is known by many as one of the “leading attorneys in North America on the philanthropic transfer of wealth.” She has served the non-profit and philanthropic community for 36 years and has trained more than a generation of financial advisors and planned giving officers. Her career in philanthropic planning began when she joined Bank of America as a tax expert after earning double degrees as a juris doctor and masters in business administration. She then joined Yale University as assistant General Counsel. Two years later, she founded her own law firm in San Francisco, but she retained Yale University as a client for an additional nine years.
Lynda’s individual clients often are highly successful real estate investors, CEOs of closely held companies or people with personal net worth of $5 million to $100 million who may be seeking to create private foundations or charitable remainder or lead trusts. They also may encounter challenges during administration of such trusts or foundations, or may wish to terminate the trust or foundation. Lynda also works with them to achieve asset protection.
These organizations may be large or small, but they all share the common goal of developing the most robust philanthropic base of high net worth donors.
She consults in setting up a solid management structure for developing high net worth prospects, creates sound marketing and strategic plans for major, endowment and planned gifts, presents training workshops for board, staff and advisors, and structures high net worth gifts for the organization or in conjunction with its staff. She has directly created or assisted in creating over a billion dollars in charitable gifts for her clients.
Asset Protection Planning encompasses many different forms, but the obvious and even easiest forms of protection are often overlooked, as is one of our most valuable assets—our home! In this show, Bill and Rick discuss various ways to implement home asset protection planning that involves tools often times overlooked, and which if desired, can be implemented easily by the homeowner him or herself and even extended beyond common sense boundaries by a lawyer who practices best asset protection principles.
