James Smolev, MD, chief of Urology at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital will visit with Anna's Journey to discuss the importance of early detection and the possibility of a 90+% chance of recovery from Prostate Cancer.
As September is Prostate Cancer Awareness... and following this past weekend's big walk for Prostate Cancer, Anna's Journey is doing more to help raise that awareness... with the help of Dr. Smolev, listeners will have the opportunity to share this info with all those in their family, with friends and anyone else who may need to hear it.
"Deaths from drug overdose have been rising steadily over the past two decades and have become the leading cause of injury death in the United States. Every day in the United States,113 people die as a result of drug overdose." CDC
The facts don't lie and losing lives to unnecessary overdoses is beyond tragic.
Which is why, providing overdose prevention and response education to drug users and their family and friends, is a harm reduction tool that we are clearly in need of today; not only for the person at risk of overdosing but for their family and friends as well.
Joining me today, to talk about overdoses, the benefits of Naloxone (a medication that reverses opioid overdose) and overdose prevention is Dr. Sharon Stancliff - an internationally known expert on opioid overdose prevention and Medical Director at the Harm Reduction Coalition.
Crime is on the rise all over. As citizens we need to come together as a community and be vigilant. Hear how you can prevent crime, protect yourself, how to start a Neighbor Watch Program, and properly report a crime. Cedar Rapids Police Officer Shannon Stokesberry will be our guest. Questions can be sent to CarlaDavisShow@yahoo.com.

SISFI is hosting a Suicide Awareness/Prevention NY Tour on Sept. 17th - Oct 3rd across NYC, Long Island and Westchester to bring more awareness, services, programs and resources to address the increasing numbers of people facing serious life and emotional challenges, and human suffering with suicide ideations/thoughts, and supporting families who lost loved ones to suicide.
The theme of the tour is “Look into my heart and mind, tell me what you see”. It highlights the realities of not knowing what’s in a person’s mind or on their heart by what we see on the outside, and that we must engage in dialog and allow an open and comfortable atmosphere for people to open up and express themselves. The workshops and radio shows of the tour are scheduled at different times every day across the 3 cities.
We have aligned 15 community workshops, 3 luncheons and 15 radio shows to bring people, mental health professionals, energy therapists, health professionals, survivors and healers together to address this very serious and important topic affecting many people in our communities. While the community workshops are local in the 3 cities, the radio shows will have guests from across the country who lost loved ones, and practitioners who specializes in the support, treatment, recovery and healing of mental health, life coaching, emotional wellness and human suffering.

Suicide is a sacred matter of life and death. As a result, due to the heartfelt comments, emails and outpouring of last week's show, Dr. Kemp has elected to extend this topic for one more week, offering an encore presentation for anyone that missed the show and is suffering with depression and suicidal thoughts. Her book: From Psychotherapy to Sacretherapy ...." offers an extra bonus chapter on alternative holistic ways to deal with depression and suicidal thoughts in an attempt to assist the national agenda of healing depression. A topic that has been widely discussed throughout the world, in the news this month, due to the recent suicides of Simone Battle and Robin Williams, both of who Dr. Kemp has had separate shows in honor of. So if you know someone that is suffering with depression or angry a lot of the time, PLEASE send them the link to this show and the one dedicated to Robin. It could save their life!
