SORT BY Relevancy
Learned helplessness occurs when an animal is repeatedly subjected to an aversive stimulus that it cannot escape. Eventually, the animal will stop trying to avoid the stimulus and behave as if it is utterly helpless to change the situation. Even when opportunities to escape are presented, this learned helplessness will prevent any action. The impact of learned helplessness has been demonstrated in a number of different animal species, but its effects can also be seen in people. Consider one often-used example: A child who performs poorly on math tests and assignments will quickly begin to feel that nothing he does will have any effect on his math performance. When later faced with any type of math-related task, he may experience a sense of helplessness.

"Is Bill Cosby a sexual predator who's being exposed, or a black man with power who's being attacked? how many sexual assault victims go unreported and unheard of in our commuity? How many innocent black men get accused of child molestation and rape? And have we made all of this worse through our cultural justifications of and pandering? We'll discuss it all on Sunday--in The Barbershop!"

Karma kamma) means action, work or deed;it also refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect). Good intent and good deed contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deed contribute to bad karma and future suffering. Karma is closely associated with the idea of rebirth in some schools of Asian religions.
