On the 56th episode of The G3 Podcast... a few interesting topics to talk about. First Beau is back and you know what that means... #BEAUWATCH Last week we discussed the Ouya but I know our listeners want to hear what shenanigans Beau has been up to regarding his Ouya search. Next up we chat about Don Mattrick and his departure from Microsoft to become the new CEO of Zynga. This news comes only a few weeks after the company laid off about 500 employees to save money. If you're wondering yes, Mattrick does get a pretty huge signing bonus. I wonder how all those old employees feel about this news. Then we shall discuss a new super Pokemon creator app. Nintendo is warning against the use of this app because it risks making the gameplay unstable and the software unusable. The app gives players the ability to create your own Pokemon by assigning hit points, attack strength, and any other stats. Obviously any player using this app for a tournament will be disqualified and banned. Would you use an app like this on your Pokemon game? I wonder if you can use this app for the new Pokemon X and Y. Next we shall discuss Twitch signing a deal with Valve to link both your accounts to receive item drops while you watch DOTA2 tournaments. Currently you can only earn drops but in the future they are looking to expand the features that would be available. With the Xbox One getting twitch integration do you think every console in the future will try to make this move? Lastly we will talk about Blizzard and their possibility of adding microtransactions to the title World of Warcraft. Seems like this is a route many people are starting to take with their video games. If Blizzard does this change do you think you will still play? Chime in to us on Twitter or the chat while we are live tonight.
On this belated Canadian Thanksgiving edition of the G3 Podcast, we discuss the recent allegations of PETA claiming the Pokemon franchise promotes animal abuse. They have set their sites on games in the past, such as Super Mario 3, Resident Evil and Tomb Raider, however, this is the first time they've lobbied against Pokemon, one of Nintendo's longest running and most beloved franchises. We'll debate our opinions on whether PETA's accusations hold any ground, or whether it is just a publicity stunt to continue directing people to their website.
A happier topic afterward? October is a historical month for console gamers, and gaming in general. As we ready for the first next-gen console release in 4 weeks, we look back at some pivotal moments of gaming that have happened in the month of October, including the birth of third party console games, and the 1985 launch of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Once the highest selling console of all time, the NES was one of the systems that helped make affordable console ownership contemporary after the video game crash, and was the first console many kids growing up in the 80s owned.
