Stages of personal injury after a wreck starts with unbelief, confusion, pain, and suffering. Reality of situation eventually sets into the mind. Worries about today and tomorrow weigh heavy against goals and dreams. One day, the sun does come out and possible opportunities become thoughts of hope. A determination to move beyond circumstances builds creative ideas to confront life struggles. A later stage to persevere continues relentlessly, when a new season of recovery or restoration arises.
Join ESTRA today with a discussion of the Seasons of Personal Injury after a wreck.
Any type of abnormal brain function is a brain injury. PTSD, multiple sclerosis, hydrocephalus, strokes, tumors, anoxia, neuromuscular disorders such as transverse myelitis, Guillain-Barre Syndrome or related neurologic conditions are all types of brain injuries of different kinds, along with traumatic brain injuries.
We need to educate the public, doctors, familes and survivors what these disabilites are. They are often misinterpreted and misdiagnosed because individuals are judged upon instead of understanding.
We need to educate survivors how to accept who they are now.
We need to motivate survivors, caregivers and family members to not give up and how we can all progress.

The Dark Side of Brain Injury
Hosted by: Craig Sicilia
Brain Injury has created new opportunities and a new conciseness that I could have never imagined. It brought a different kind of hope and salvation. As good a person as I might have been before my brain injury I don’t think the gates of heaven would have been open to me, and even now I have things that need to be let go.
All of these major changes came with a cost, a huge cost that as well I could not imagine. To lose all that I was in such a rapid destruction of who I was. Lost my marriage, friends, job, home and myself. It shock my faith and challenged everything I once believed to be fact, or at least my fact.
And now to live a life as this new person, on what seems to be a personally lonely road, though I am incredible social I find myself very much alone at times I wish I wasn’t. I find my opinions and goals in conflict with many. But at the same time I believe I have learned to see the value in everyone. Even though I am learning not everyone can play in the sandbox or should play in it.
This show will explore some of those dark lonely times, those times for the good of this cause I would spend in solitude never allowing myself to get to close to someone. The price and the rewards, the pain and the joy. I know many have similar stories to share I invite you on to share your dark times and more importantly the tools to move beyond those dark times.

The Real Face of Brain Injury
We talking the real face of brain injury like your mom or dad, your brother or sister, husband or wife. Brain Injury happens to anyone anytime. There is no face of brain injury it is invisible and we need to educate society that you cannot see a brain injury. All the time some organizations our looking for faces to touch peoples heart so that the organizations can touch peoples wallets. If they are successful the majority of people who live with a brain injury won’t fit the label and face they are trying so hard to establish for their bottom line.
So it is up to us survivors to counter this, to make sure people get to see the real face of brain injury. They need to see your face, hear your story. As hard and unfair as it is it is up to survivors. Only we can change our world and make no mistake there are great obstacles. Millions and millions of dollars are being put into branding the face of brain injury. And millions into studies to observe the obvious.
Tonight share your story, share your face. Share what you really want and need. And let us share what we can do to get the real face of brain injury into the hearts and minds of our community, into the people we love to help us hang on to those relationship. We must help people understand so that mean against all odds we must learn to understand this new person, and quickly. Together sharing our stories we can make tomorrow a day of our dreams
This radio show for family members, caregivers, doctors, nuerologists and public awareness!

What are you doing to learn?
When are you going to understand?
What are you doing now?
When family members, caregivers, loved ones, and significant others give up helping, where do you go? Outpatient services don't help unless insurance is involved. Medical staff in communities nationwide misdiagnose, brush off, discharge or don't treat brain injuries survivors when they come in about ailments due to their brain injury. They state it's all in their mind, nothing is really wrong. When do medical professionals get involved with unpaid, volunteer community outreach for those involved with brain injuries in the community to understand? Why don't medical staff get involved with support groups on a voluntary basis? How many times do family members and old friends tell a brain injury survivor to get over yourself and stop faking the injury? EVERYDAY! They don't realize anything till it happens to them. Then it's too late.

STRAIGHT OUTTA BRAIN INJURY
No one would ever know, how sometimes seemingly small things can set into motion a emotional catastrophic series of events. How we can be emotionally and mentally destabilized in a flash!!
Tonight 3 survivors will share their emotional and physical experiences with you. For name sake we will call this series of Straight OUTTA BRAIN INJURY -
"Stung, Warped & Fried"
We hope you will call in and share your experiences of to much, times where you felt mentally or emotionally in a freefall. we get it. As well we realize with management we can somewhat have control over these freefalls.
Our challenge is to have as few of these as we can, to recognize how to minimize them. Together we can learn to have a life far greater than we can imagine, so let us imagine this life together
"DREAM BIG, LIVE LARGE"
Thanksgiving is a time of gratefulness. After being involved in a car accident, being around to enjoy life and visit with others is a gift. Appreciating the simple things, insights through personal injury journey, and moments of reflections are part of this holiday. Today's show is about giving and receiving, which makes life so special with an injury or disability.
Brain Injury Radio Network does not only apply to survivors of brain injuries. Caregivers, family members, loved ones, medical professionals, advocates who want to make changes happen for survivors and the generally public who want to learn how to help others in need.
Who decides when outpatient care is no longer needed, how an individual can not get any better, or when limitations run out? Many insurance companies cut off care for outpatient care after a limited amount of time.
There are many struggles that occur for anyone involved in the financial side of occurance after a brain injury. Unless there is a substantial lawsuit which takes place after, the largest battle aside from the recovery process is how are needs going to be met. For caregivers, when your life is put on hold to now cover the expenses for someone else aside from trying to take care of yourself or children in a family, now you may have an adult who can not manage these tasks on their own any longer. Unfortunately, home health aides are not in any position to take care of these personal needs. Who represents the injured?
For a survivor, are handling financial tasks too much? Has your cognitive development had an impact on stress, money, relationships they can now trust in their lives and how things will be taken care of? What happens if an individual hasn't been so blessed to finally get approved for SSDI? Who represents the survivors after family has given up their relationships with the survivors? When disability insurance only covers 80% of medical costs (if any) how does a disabled individual know how to get supplemental insurance? How much does the brain injury community know where to go and who to talk to in each state or even locally in their area?

You do not have to be brain injured to be involved in the brain injury community. What you will learn about is how we are each others family in many cirumstances. Because brain injuries don't just involve a traumatic brain injury, a stroke, a person who is mentally handicapped, or someone seen with a walker; there are hundreds of us who are with masters degrees, major accomplishments, happy families, children, marraiges, and careers who are brilliant and well mannored.
So many in the public dont understand who we are. They don't understand this could be them in a moments notice as life events occur at any given time. Survivors and caregivers unite and we build a family of our own! We talk about what we have become and how well we stand together!
What we can do and will do is educate the public! We show individuals life is way too short and need to enjoy every second we have while we are here ALIVE! We do not let people whole us down! We will not allow anyone to talk down to us. We are strong and we are proud we have accomplished so much.
Join us together for a positive approach in life! Whining and complaining about how bad your life is, is just a waste of valuable time!
We Talk About What We Have Become and How Well We Stand Together!
.Welcome to another episode the Brain Injury Roundtable. I am your host, Constance Miller, brain injury survivor of 32 years; author of the original brain injury owner's manual entitled From The Ashes. This innovative guidebook was featured on Super Bowl XXXIV. Miller is Managing Director of Brain Injury Resource Center, located on the Internet at http://www.headinjury.com. Also joining us will be Tai Campbell, my invaluable contributor who is a tireless community activist, and founder of Taken Back Our Community (TBOC) http://www.tbocnow.org. Also of note he is the survivor of an incredible history of childhood brain injuries. I'd like to thank: all our listeners for bringing our voices, to your home, or your mobile device wherever you are around the world. Additionally, I’d like to give a big thank you to this show’s sponsors: Martha Marcum, mother of a brain injury survivor and author of MARTHA'S FABLES and Gordon Johnson, attorney of http://www.TBILaw.com .
The Brain Injury Roundtable is a place for Ideas, discussion, and recovery for people seeking solutions, to bridge the gap between understanding brain injury and insights on how to change life for the better so be prepared to hear some great information to motivate and inspire us and change the world. The main reason we are tackling this topic this evening is that even a seemingly minor concussion can have life-long, life altering consequences. And that is the topic of tonight's discussion. The plan is to learn from one another and to educate one another about TBI and its aftermath. We know personally just how a traumatic even a concussion can be.
