Azim Khamisa – an author, activist and an international inspirational speaker – was born in Kenya, Africa and had early training in mathematics, economics and finance in the U.K. A successful investment banker with over 40 years of experience, he has conducted business in Africa, Middle East, Canada, USA, Europe and Asia. Presently he serves as the President of the Child Safety Network (CSN). Committing his life to halting the continuing cycle of violence among the youth, Azim became a social activist after his 20-year-old son Tariq was senselessly murdered while delivering pizzas in January 1995 by Tony Hicks, a 14-year-old gang member. Out of grief and despair, Khamisa was inspired to transform his loss through the power of forgiveness. Believing that there were “victims at both ends of the gun,” Azim forgave Tony and founded the Tariq Khamisa Foundation to break the cycle of youth violence by saving lives, empowering positive choices and teaching the principles of nonviolence and peacemaking. A month after establishing the foundation, Azim invited Ples Felix, Tony’s grandfather and guardian, to join him. Together, since November 1995, the two have brought their story and message through TKF’s Violence Impact Assemblies. The duo has reached over a million elementary and middle school children live and over 8 million via video programs, guiding the youth to choose a peacemaker’s life of non-violence and forgiveness.
Each week, WatchDOGS Radio host Keith Schumacher and co-host Chris Danenhauer discuss how this program is impacting families and schools across our nation and in four foreign countries.

Her experiences have inspired her to help others through her speaking engagements, her life coaching practice and through the writing of her book, Finding Peace Amid the Chaos: My Escape from Depression and Suicide. In her revealing and thought-provoking memoir, she shares her personal experiences to help others develop effective coping skills necessary to manage stress, anxiety, depression and healing after loss. She presents her intimate journey of self discovery and finding peace.
Tanya is a certified life coach and has a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University. She is an advocate for mental health awareness and is dedicated to removing the stigma associated with mental illness. Our guest for this Sunday evening is our own native Houstonian, "Deric Muhammad." Deric Muhammad is an accomplished Houston-based Activist/Organizer who addresses issues on behalf of the black community and other poor and under-served disenfranchised communities concerning Social Justice, Police Brutality, Racial Inequality, and Black Male Development.
Deric Muhammad believes that man is given power for one reason; "To Serve Others!" Deric Muhammad has been, for years, seen on local and national television stations addressing the tough issues faced by Black people in America. He says that he is unashamed of his love for Black people and thanks God every day for giving him the honor of serving his community.
In 2009 he independently produced and starred in a critically acclaimed documentary called “Raising Boys: Tips for Single Moms” that addresses the plight of Black women raising sons in the absence of a father. He recently launched a Houston-based Black Male Initiative called Project FORWARD that focuses on Stopping Inner-City Violence and creating Economic Development. His writings have been published in many newspapers and he has currently released his first self-published book A.S.A.P (A Street Activist Perspective).

LET'S GET READY TO EVOLVE INTO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS...
In this show we’ll be going back to some basics because we are, in fact, learning to straddle two worlds: the old and the new world we are currently creating! This is a wonderful time of creating the new world, and WE are the ones creating it! We are each being provided the opportunity to live our own idea of Heaven on Earth, our own Palace of Peace. Most are unaware that this is not only a possibility, but it is very real, and the time is here NOW! We simply cannot wait for others, and we need to also respect that each soul will move at their own time. It’s our own duty and responsibility for our own soul to bring this into our own lives. We are responsible and we can easily learn how to be response-able.
We need to understand the analytical process of not only deciding but “dissecting” our own life in order to manifest the process, the order, the routine, and the boundaries which are required to bring ourselves into a higher state of our own being. There are very necessary steps one must take in owning one’s life, being accountable for one’s life, and deciding to leave the world of victim consciousness and poverty consciousness behind. We do this for ourselves first, and then we are also leading by example. Join Faith and I as we share with you our 20 years of experience each in unravelling each topic into a magnificent tapestry of deeper understanding and awareness. www.palaceofpeace.net and www.faithparent.net
Tonight we will discuss how to embrace the gift of peace so that we can change the world.
The Jeju Peace Forum was founded in 2001 with the goal of contributing to world peace and international cooperation in the East Asian sphere through multilateral dialogue and community building.
The 2003 edition of the conference included President Roh Muu-hyun's official apology to Jeju Island for the 4.3 massacre and the 2007 Jeju Declaration envisioned a regional peacekeeping diplomatic role for South Korea based on the Helsinki Process.
In 2008, with the election of the hardline right-wing Lee Myung-bak government, the foreign affairs ministry changed the name of the conference to The Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity and shifted focus away from co-operative agreements, bringing in big name speakers on themes unrelated to the peace process.
A glance at the list of events, workshops and speakers from the 10th Forum held last May, full of washed-up politicians and discredited neoliberal economic themes, suggests a conference in search of an identity.
Darren Southcott, editor-in-chief of The Jeju Weekly magazine, joins The Korea File to discuss whether or not the Forum has stayed true to it’s roots as a regional peace initiative.
