Influenced by his own struggles as he came to terms with his sexual identity, he seeks to challenge social constructs that exist around sexual orientation and gender roles.

His career has included exhibitions in galleries throughout the United States, as well as publication in numerous art journals and anthologies. His work is collected by individuals from around the globe. In his role as the Associate Art Director for Dreamspinner Press and their young adult imprint, Harmony Ink Press, he has created over two hundred and fifty novel cover illustrations. He teaches community art classes for Stonewall Columbus. He has volunteered with the Kaleidoscope Youth Center, encouraging LGBTQ teens to use art as a means of self-exploration and expression. He is a co-founder of the You Will Rise Project, an organization that empowers those who have experienced bullying to speak out creatively through the language, visual, and performing arts.

Paul shares his life with husband, Dennis Niekro. They were married in a group ceremony with twenty-four other LGBT couples in front of the U.S. Supreme Court building in June 2013. Together, they are committed to using their artistic talents to raise equality awareness.

Peace In Living with Mz Lyrik

    in Lifestyle

Mz. Lyrik knew she was unique and soon felt a spiritual desire to change her way of living. She had no clue the Holy Spirit was moving in her life and that she was destined to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Mz. Lyrik loved to rap so she invested in studio time and began making music with other Las Vegas artists. In 2004, she made and distributed 1500 copies of her freshman indie album entitled, “So Focuzed” which received rave reviews from both major and indie artist labels. Though opportunities were offered, Mz. Lyrik refused requests from major labels to change her image or lyrical content and chose to stay indie.

#126 Azim Khamisa, Author - Peace Activist

    in Education

The Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program is the largest school based father engagement program in the nation with over 4500 schools participating.

Azim Khamisa – an author, activist and an international inspirational speaker – was born in Kenya, Africa and had early training in mathematics, economics and finance in the U.K. A successful investment banker with over 40 years of experience, he has conducted business in Africa, Middle East, Canada, USA, Europe and Asia. Presently he serves as the President of the Child Safety Network (CSN). Committing his life to halting the continuing cycle of violence among the youth, Azim became a social activist after his 20-year-old son Tariq was senselessly  murdered while delivering pizzas in January 1995 by Tony Hicks, a 14-year-old gang member. Out of grief and despair,  Khamisa was inspired to transform his loss through the power of forgiveness. Believing that there were “victims at both ends of the gun,” Azim forgave Tony and founded the Tariq Khamisa Foundation to break the cycle of youth violence by saving lives, empowering positive choices and teaching the principles of nonviolence and peacemaking. A month after establishing the foundation, Azim invited Ples Felix, Tony’s grandfather and guardian, to join him. Together, since November 1995, the two have brought their story and message through  TKF’s Violence Impact Assemblies. The duo has reached over a million elementary and middle school children live and over 8 million via video programs, guiding the youth to choose a peacemaker’s life of non-violence and forgiveness.

Each week, WatchDOGS Radio host Keith Schumacher and co-host Chris Danenhauer discuss how this program is impacting families and schools across our nation and in four foreign countries.

Please join our audience and call in with your questions and comments.

    Living in Peace

    in Spirituality

Living as a peaceful person? If we are struggling internally then we are in a sense in conflict with our very own selves. We speak often of the idea of oneness and if all is one then we in a sense are adding to the idea of global conflict. Consdier for a moment if you are in conflict with what is going on in the Middle East then we are adding to the idea of conflict with the only difference being that we are not using weapons. But consider for a moment is it not so that a negative thought or mind is in a sense a weapon? If a negative thought is a weapon then we are not commanding or directing our own mind and thoughts. We the human do not live peacefully when in reality we could. The thing that interferes is what we term as the external world. Any time we allow the outer world or circumstance to influence us then we would never be able to find peace. Peace is not on the out side of us any more than happiness is, these are simple states of being. If we do not allow for these states of being then we are simply being more influenced by the outer world. If we live in this manner we are not going to have that peace peace is not something that we look for it is something that we all have but do not allow for it. We not only can be influenced by the outer world but also with how we see ourselves> Join Liara and Steven for another great conversation. 718-664-9735
