A Theory of Parenting - NYPL - Peter Mendelsund and High Line Park

    in Parents

The High Line (also known as the High Line Park) is a 1.45-mile-long (2.33 km) New York City linear park built in Manhattan on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line.[1] Inspired by the 3-mile (4.8-kilometer) Promenade plantée (tree-lined walkway), a similar project in Paris completed in 1993, the High Line has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway andrails-to-trails park.[3][4]  perishing square beams is a kid friendly part of the high line!
We chose this spot due to the graphic natural that it shares with our feature Artist Peter Mendelsund!

    NYPL says:
The practice of designing jackets and covers for books becomes a lens through which to view the question: What do books look like? (How much of the imaginative content of the reading experience is the author's, and how much is the readers; who owns the reading experience; can an author preside in some real way over our reading imaginations; what are the parameters which hem in the reading imagination? How should books be packaged and sold?) These questions will be touched on during a rich visual tour of Peter Mendelsund's design work.

A Theory of Parenting - Photos in NYC for A Theory of Jewel 3

    in Fashion

    June 29, 2015

    Hello,

Welcome to A Theory of Parenting on Blogtalkradio.com

    My name is Tammi Joyner

I am your Host for the Show

Today we are doing a Photo Shoot

What is unique about the Shoot is that we are shooting pieces of jewelry in Manhattan NY

Yes, we are planning another book - A theory of Jewel 3

So, I decided to take snapshots of our jewel around the city of NYC

After Marquels graduation I thought it would be great to photo the jewelry wore to graduation

Those will be featured in our new book - the book will be available at blurb.com

    www.wikipedia.com says:

A photo shoot is generally used in the fashion or glamour  industry, whereby a model poses for a photographer at a studio where multiple photos are taken to find the best ones for the required brief. The "model" is not always a person, however; for instance, advertising in print often requires photographic depiction of advertised goods, and food can be the subject of magazine articles (often in very elaborate presentations).

a Theory of Parenting -Central Park Conservatory Garden

    in Photography

The Conservatory Garden is Central Park's six-acre formal garden.

It is divided into three smaller gardens, each with a distinct style: Italian, French, and English. The Garden's main entrance is through the Vanderbilt Gate, on Fifth Avenue between 104th and 105th Streets.

The Italianate center garden is composed of a large lawn surrounded by hedges and is bordered by two exquisite spring-blooming pink and white crabapple trees.

A 12-foot high jet fountain plays on the western end of the lawn, backed by tiered hedges and stairs that lead up to a wisteria pergola.

On the walkway under the pergola are medallions inscribed with the names of the original 13 states.

spectacular seasonal displays of spring tulips,  all within an ellipse of Japanese holly.

In the center is the charming Three Dancing Maidens fountain by German sculptor, Walter Schott.

To the south is the very intimate English-style garden.

There are five mixed borders of trees, shrubs and perennial plants, and five seasonal beds featuring spring bulbs that are followed by annual flower displays.

A slope of woodland plants lines the western edge of this garden.

At the center is sculptor Bessie Potter Vonnoh's lovely Frances Hodgeson Burnett Memorial Fountain, a tribute to the author of the children's book, The Secret Garden.

The children — a girl and a boy, said to depict Mary and Dickon, the main characters from the classic — stand at one end of a small water lily pool.

The Conservatory Garden is an officially designated Quiet Zone and offers a calm and colorful setting for a leisurely stroll, and intimate wedding, or an escape with a good book.

For many years the garden was tended by volunteers from the Garden Club of America and in 1983 it was restored by the Central Park Conservancy.

A Theory of Parenting - Senior Skip Day 2015

    in School

    June 08, 2015

    Hello,

Welcome to A Theory of Parenting on Blogtalkradio.com

    My name is Tammi Joyner

I am your Host for the Show

Today our topic is brought to our audience by our Co-Creator Marquel Green

The show is about Senior Cut Day or Senior Skip Day

The issue: One day of the year that Seniors skip High School!

    www.wikipedia.com says:

Senior skip day also called senior ditch day or senior cut day is a tradition in many American and Canadian High Schools where the majority of Seniors skip class

around May 8 often to spend the day at an amusement park or resort.

The most frequently chosen day is either the day before prom or the following Monday.

Other days popular for seniors to ditch include the day after Halloween the day before election day, the day after the Super Bowl,

Cinco de Mayo, April 20, and the day before Spring Break.

    Prevention by Schools

Some schools have taken actions to prevent students from skipping school on Ditch Day,

Other schools have embraced the trend by offering some kind of school sponsored class trip to an amusement park or other fun activity.

Asbury Park H.S.  a Neighboring School has also participated in the Senior Trend.

I graduated in 1992, I to took part in the Senior Cut Day.
