Love Liberty & Lip Gloss with Glamour Model Abigail Rich

    in Lifestyle

Abigail Rich returns to Love Liberty & Lip Gloss on April 23 at 7 p.m. Eastern:

Abigail was born in Dallas Texas and abandoned by her mother when she was only two months old. She grew up with foster families until she was 17 years old. All through her school years she knew that she wanted to help people. She became a Paramedic right out of high school and quickly moved up to flight medic on a air ambulance helicopter. In the early 2000’s, she was working on the medical helicopter when it crashed. Abigail was critically injured and had to undergo three lifesaving surgeries receiving over 400 stitches and over 200 staples as well as numerous steel plates for her broken bones. The doctors told her family that she would not survive. After 6 weeks in the intensive care unit, Abigail proved them wrong when she woke up. Then after another 3 months she walked out of the Hospital on her own. After her recovery, Abigail concluded that life is too short and she wanted to still help people and show them that they can overcome life’s hurtles. At the same time, she intended to enjoy her precious gift of life.

Through an odd twist of fate, Abigail became a professional Glamour Model. Abigail has worked as a trade show model, modeled at fashion shows, even as a spokes model promoting products and services, to becoming an Internationally published Glamour Model.

Last time was fun, let's do it again

    in Health

As of right now, we have no clue what we're going to be doing.  Probably reporting stuff we find on the big EMS news sites, a little more complaining about John's Psych 110 class, more head beating about clinicals, and a little bit of fun in the chatroom.

4/14/2015 Community Paramedicine and Physicians Advisory Committee

    in Caregiving

The Wisconsin EMS Live broadcast on Tuesday, April 14 is dedicated to Community Paramedicine and recent action by the Physicians Advisory Committee.

The CommunityParamedicine conversation will run from 9:00 to 9:40 a.m.  Our guests include Minnesota Ambulance Association’s Buck McAlpin, PAAW President Patrick Ryan, and city of Milwaukee Fire Department’s Michael Wright.  All three are deeply involved in CP and building the infrastructure to deliver it the right way here in Wisconsin.  Like anything new or evolving some education and learning is required to move forward, and there will be many questions to ask and answer.

Community Paramedicine programs have been evolving in Minnesota, Colorado and Texas.  An architect in Minnesota’s CP development is Buck McAlpin, director of government affairs for the Minnesota Ambulance Association and North Memorial Medical Transportation in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.  Given his experience in leading CP concepts in Minnesota, McAlpin’s knowledge and expertise is being sought nationally, to include by the Professional Ambulance Association of Wisconsin.

At 9:40 a.m. we’ll be joined by Dr. Suzanne Martens, Chair of the Physicians Advisory Committee.  Her group recently recommended use of nitrous oxide as an option to control pain management at the Advanced EMT level and higher.  Another recommendation is allowing one paramedic and one trained airway technician to perform a medication assisted advanced airway procedure that under current situations requires two paramedics.

As always, the live show offers caller questions.  Make sure to listen live on your phone or any internet connected device on Tuesday, April 14 starting at 9:00 a.m. central time and lasting 60 minutes.

A Review of Todays Trucking News

    in News

We will be reviewing the stories affecting trucking today and hoping some drivers will join us for a discussion regarding how enforcement of the sleep apnea rules are affecting them and what they are doing to comply with the physician's recommendation.  Are there more 3 month med cards being issued?  Are the physicians over stepping their authority? Did FMCSA not give enough guidance to physicians?  Have you tried to be proactive and address any issues prior to going for your DOT physical?  What's working, what's not?  Have you searched the web for miracles?  Why is it that many drivers have bad eating habits, lack of time to exercise or just plain can't pass physicals?  Drivers?  Companies?  DOT? Physicians? Truck Stops?  I believe all share the responsibility.  Let's discuss it?

DISCLAIMER:  We do not pretend to have all the answers nor know all the regulations, rules and rights.  Remember states have the right to adopt all or some of the Federal Regulations so you must know your state laws as well as the Federal laws.  We offer an arena to discuss both our and your experiences and best practices.  Please keep in mind our goal is to improve the safety of our highways and byways across our great nation.  We humbly defer to the regulatory agencies both state and federal to help all of us be the safest we can be.

We encourage everyone to contact the appropriate regulatory agency directly, however if you are not comfortable doing that please contact the Safety Mentor.
