So... I remarked to some Facebook friends that my head was elsewhere today, and that what I really wanted to do was make apple cake and paint. And that my brain is jell-o. I then asked them what I should talk about today, and they gave the answer that made the most sense: Apple Cake and Paint. And Jell-o. So... listen at your own risk, today. ;)

"Andrea Spofford's debut collection is an engaging eco-poetical Bildungsromanin which Nancy Drew becomes a verb, traversed geographies stretch from hippodromes to sandstone caves, and vantage points move from the naturalist's eye to the panoramic gaze of an explorer compelled by the personal histories of place.'I want to tell you about sinking ships—Andrea Doria, Monitor, RMS Rhone./ I want to tell you about black holes, twenty-million bats in darkness'- Spofford's meticulous and striking images lead us to want to hear about it all."--Rebecca Morgan Frank

Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a string of suicides committed by people with little in common other than the identical, grisly method of death – slow, self-administered disembowelment. All of the victims were members of a Catholic church and had recently given confession, leading the brothers to suspect the priest (guest star Stephen Daniel Curtis) is somehow involved. Meanwhile, when Crowley (Mark Sheppard) captures Olivette (guest star Teryl Rothery), the leader of the Grand Coven, Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) pleads her case to be allowed to practice magic freely again. John Showalter directed this episode written by Brad Buckner & Eugenie Ross-Leming (#1016).

Remember what Nathanael Herreshoff said: "There are only two colors to paint a boat, black or white. And only a fool would paint a boat black."
We'll start you thinking about everything you need to know about gelcoat. What it is, how it affects a boat's construction, how to take care of it, how to repair it, and how to bring it back to that high-gloss beauty once it has started to fade.
But gelcoat isn't the only way to have a shiny hull: There's also paint, varnish, and new materials such as sharkskin.
Our guest is Mike Swietzer (Skagit Valley College). Mike is Department Chair of the college's Marine Maintenance Technology, located at Anacortes, Washington.
Barbara Jean promises she will tell us how she learned the finer points of watching paint dry at The WoodenBoat School in Brooklin, Maine. (Not for the faint of heart, she says.) And marine surveyor Pat Kearns will tell you what to look for in the shiny stuff before you fall too deepy in love with that previously own boat.
