Learning through Appreciating Failure
Host Elise Marquam Jahns will speak with Matt Hunt, CEO and Founder of Strategy and Innovation consulting firm Stanford & Griggs.
Every discipline from scientists, entrepreneurs, and even artists use trial and error to move their work forward. But as we grow up, we begin to perceive that we have more to lose from “failure” than we have to gain. The result is that innovation stagnates and we don’t learn from our failures because we are too intent on covering them up. Individuals and organizations that recognize this head on are able to outlearn and outgrow their competition.

Jump-start your week with 30 minutes of inspiring information to help you break through barriers and create a life you love. This week's topic: I Don't Want to Outgrow My Partner! If you have a partner, often that person is at the center of your life. You love him or her deeply and don't want to imagine life without them. Sometimes, though, when people grow and change -- especially if they make major life changes -- it can feel like they're leaving their partner behind.
How do you know when you are "next level" ready? You start feeling like the people (networks, groups, associates) you hang around are no longer "your thing". The people aren't stimulating, they are entrenched in their comfort zone, and have no desire to come out of it. Associations don't give you the brain candy to keep you stimulated, and you often find yourself around the same people all the time...and they usually turn to YOU for the answers. It can be a lonely place when you feel like you're the smartest person in the room. Well, don't feel guilty. It's OK to outgrow people, places and things. It's call life. And as business owners, we have to be mindful not to get stuck in a rut if we want to continue growing and innovating. Join me and my guest as we talk about the warning signs that it's time to move on, how you can tactfully say goodbye and things you need to do to make sure you make upwards moves. Grow without feeling guilty!
In this week's Asthma House Calls, we sat down to talk with Dr. Calvin Dixon on what asthma is, common misconceptions about asthma, whether children really "outgrow asthma," what a pulmonologist does and when it's time to see the pulmonologist for your child's asthma, common treatments for asthma and potential side effects. Christians often find themselves walking a fine line between legalism and antinomianism, between proving they are Christians through their works and acting as though their sins shoud never be an indicator that they may not be saved. Such a walk can result in frustration and spirtual exhaustion unless one rightly understands the gospel. Christians never outgrow their need for the gospel. Rich and Chris will take time to line out how Christians should rightly understan

Our first guest will be and Kirby of the candy factory in Lancaster. And she will be talking about the benefits of co-working. Many small business owners today are technology-based and start out of their home.
There is a point at which they will outgrow the confines of their living space and need to enter into a place where they can meet with clients and do general business. Of course, this can be cost prohibitive for many small businesses before they are ready to make the move. Coworking provides small business owners with a reasonable bridge before they decide to purchase their own building or lease their own space.
Anne will be discussing with us how small business owners can best utilize this valuable resource and spend their focus on growth. The key in understanding co-working is alternately that it helps small businesses to intensify their capital, human resources and creativity. In early years on growing your business. Once the growth has accelerated behind the first few years of rapidly growing expenses, it may be then time to get their own. Until then co-working is a viable alternative.
Our next guest will be helping us to extend our resources. Her name is Maria Schelsinger and she is the head of the business owners trade alliance. The business owners trade alliance is an entity designed to help businesses to barter products and services money out-of-pocket. They have it effectively set up an exchange that makes it easy for businesses to work with each other in the area of barter.
The difficulty in doing these things outside of an alliance is that assigning value to your services is somewhat subjective. Receiving services in return can be problematic if both parties don't have a clear sense of the value as it is directed by the person doing the trading. Maria will be sharing with us strategies that small business owners are employing in order to extend their resources.
What do we do when we outgrow the people and places that have always been a part of our lives? How do we answer that call to move forward, move on with our lives without turning our backs on those that we love? It's not always a choice between either or but sometimes it feels like it must be. Today we talk about moving on with the life path we are drawn to live. Doing so with grace & ease. Sometimes the ripples we create affect the lives of others.
