Honoring the Ancestors this Memorial day and the entire month of May

    in Spirituality

Since the beginning  of civilization  all cultures have created ceremonies to honor their family members, national heroes, community leaders in fact anyone who have passed from this plain of existence but  are still alive in the memories of their descendants. In this Month's show I will share with you 3 things  people struggle with when trying to honor their deceased loved ones or community leaders, heroes and sheroes

This is a good time of the year to  remember the sacrifices, hard work, dedication and commitment of the people who made it possible for us to be here today. I will share valuable  info about the step by step method of who, when, where, to honor your  ancestors and loved ones.

Join me and my special guess Medium, Priest of Oshun, father, Babalorisa Rivelinho Bolivar.

Rive, as he is called by his friends was born in 1978 in Panama City, Panama and grew up in the countryside along the Caribbean coastline in the small town of Salud, in a Catholic family

He was an altar/choir boy and continued my involvement with church service after moving to the US until the age of 16. I've always had a sensitivity to the spiritual world – seeing shadows, hearing voices, able to tune into the vibrations of the homes of others as a child, never being bothered by my ability to sense things. Working with the church also exposed him to the Lucumí pantheon, that also plays an important role in my life in hand with my spiritualist practice, as I observed the holy days of saints which had been syncretized with the Yoruba orishas.

SiGnOtHeTiMeS w Queen Tahiyrah & the OSDSI Ile in Cincinnati Ohio What is BEMBE?

    in Motivation

TONIGHT 4/17/15 6PM EST THE CINCINNATI ILE OF OBAFEMI IFAYEMI DIVINE STUDY of IFA WILL BE ON SIGN O THE TIMES speaking about an upcoming event in Cincinnati, Ohio set for 4/25/15 PLEASE JOIN US.....  Chief Obafemi Ifayemi Epega, the Mayegun of Ode Remo, Nigeria

Bembé: The Rhythm of the Saints
A bembé is a party for the orishas. During a bembé the orishas are praised, saluted and entreated
to join the party through `mounting' one of the priests or priestesses in attendance. This is done
through a confluence of the song, rhythm, and movement, all calling to the orisha in such a way
that the orisha will recognise themselves in the lyrics, rhythms and dances as they have been
performed for them for perhaps thousands of years.

The rhythms play an important part of the equation and the drummers practice assiduously for years
to be able to play the intricate rhythms correctly. This is important since the drums are actually
speaking to the orishas as the Yoruba language is a tonal one and the drums are tuned in such a way
as to play the tones of Yoruba speech. For this reason some rhythms are never played unless it is
in religious context as it would offend the orisha. These rhythms are actually prayers to the
deities with each orisha having its own rhythms associated with them.

Dance also becomes prayer in the religious context of a bembé. The movements of the dances are the
same motions associated with the orishas for thousands of years. As with the rhythms played on the
drums, each orisha has its own dances with Yemayá's dance emulating the motion of the waves, Ogún's
chopping with his machete, Oshún's portraying her primping in front of her hand held mirror, etc.

    The Ancestors in You

    in Culture

As African Kutawanyika, not only have we been removed from our place of origin, traditions, culture, language, and spirituality, but we have been removed from our actual selves.  The original people are no longer original in any sense.  We desperately want to be as the descendents of those who kidnapped and brutally torchered and killed our Ancestors, and systematically destroyed us as a people, even to this day.

In order to return to the brilliant people we once were, we must reconnect with ourselves.  In order to make this reconnection we must reach out and communicate with our African Ancestors who are not only with us, but are within us genetically. The Ancestors are very real and present. we are the sum total of all who have come before us. Let us reconnect.
