Ola Jackson is an accomplished business woman of 25 years who inspires me as I travel this journey of entrepreneurship. Ola is the founder of OWN (Onyx Woman Network) and NEW (Nurturing Evolving Women). She has earned numerous accolades including the 2012 Pittsburgh Black Media Federation Legacy Award, 2010 SBA Business Champion Award, Robert Morris Alumni of the year, 2009 Pittsburgh Courier Woman of Influence, 2006 National Society of Collegiate Scholars Award, 2003 The New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Influence Award and the 2002 Pittsburgh Women in Business Woman of Distinction Award.
But perhaps what inspires me even more than her business savvy is her journey as a mother.
Ola’s son was diagnosed with autisim at the age of 4 and during a time when the condition was rarely publicized, and resources weren’t as bountiful or accessible as they are today. Launching her own business allowed Ola to dedicate more time to meet his ever-changing needs. Please take a listen to my mom talk with this incredible woman!

Is high risk disease progress, the key to a cure for all myeloma patients? And what can researchers do to get new therapies to work for more than 30% of relapsed patients? Multiple myeloma has many different treatment options and the path patients' follow is different depending on response. In fact in some cases a disease that starts out as low risk may one day progress to high risk. That is why the treatments for these higher risk diseases is so important. A new therapy would need to show efficacy across different lines of therapy. CureTalks' myeloma panel is talking to Dr. Ola Landgren on high risk disease, progress, and cure.

The roots of the “hard gospel” style Mahalia Jackson perfected can be traced to the Pentecostal / Holiness movement at the turn of the century, when the “shout songs” became synonymous with the holy ghost possessing a soul. Churchgoers spoke in tongues, rolled in the aisles, waved their arms wildly, shouted “Hallelujah” and clapped their hands in sanctified percussion as the pianist pounded away on an untuned upright. As the preachers wailed and raged, the music matched the mood.
But an increasing number of people- both black and white – were becoming interested in the Pentecostal doctrine and the new worship services that urged emotional release. The vortex of this impassioned twist on faith was at the pilgrimage of Pentecostal leaders to the Apostolic Faith Gospel Mission in Los Angeles in 1906. Being “saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost” by speaking in tongues was the theme at the event now commonly referred to as the Azusa Street Revival. Musical instruments, once considered the tools of the devil, were used to punctuate the testimony and wild foot-stomping dances called “shouting” broke out at will. A one-eyed black man named William Seymour preached the message of Pentecost in Acts 2:4 of the New Testament, which tells the story of the Holy Ghost descending on a gathering of Christ’s disciples in the form of tongues of fire. At Azusa Street, those overcome by the spirit talked in a Hebraic-sounding language (called “gloss-ola-lia”) which was translated by the preacher.
