SORT BY Relevancy
Nikki Haley, Republican governor of South Carolina, gave one of the best GOP responses to the State of the Union address.
She spoke about the need for governing in the middle, shunning the noise masquerading as knowledge from the extremists of her own party. It took courage. It's what leadership is supposed to look like.
She spoke of the members of the S. Carolina church that after suffering the tragedy of the mass shooting, did not resort to extremism hate speech. Instead, they rose above the tragedy and put their character and strong values to work, urging peace in the face of violence.
They were our better angles. They were our role models.
Nikki Haley made remarks such as;
‘We need to recognize our contributions to the erosion of the public trust’
“While Democrats in Washington bear much responsibility for the problems facing America today, they do not bear it alone,” Nikki Haley said. “There is more than enough blame to go around."
“We as Republicans need to own that truth. We need to recognize our contributions to the erosion of the public trust in America’s leadership, we need to accept that we’ve played a role in how and why our government is broken, and then we need to fix it.”

Well, I guess that means that Trump won't have Carly to kick around anymore, and Chris Christie will not be making ang wisecracks about the "bubbleboy" or the 25 second scripted response about President Clinton. We will also be playing music from "iPluggers." Don't forget that since it is Friday, we will be discussing religion as it pertains to our daily life. Few historians will deny that the system of institutionalized slavery was the primary factor that transformed America into an economic powerhouse and solidified its position as the most powerful nation on Earth. While slavery was clearly a blessing for the financial growth of the country, few would be so callous or so foolish as to suggest that slavery was a blessing for the millions of Blacks who were enslaved. But that is exactly what one Arkansas State Representative is proposing. In his book written in 2009 Republican Jon Hubbard states that slavery was a “Blessing in Disguise” for the Black Race. And while it may be easy to offer a response based on raw emotions. We will refrain. We will instead use the words of the Holy Bible to answer the question “Was slavery a blessing or a curse to the black man in America?”

“God closes a door and then opens a window,” people sometimes say when dealing with their own disappointment or someone else’s. That was certainly true in Marguerite’s case. Children from European as well as Native American backgrounds in seventeenth-century Canada benefited from her great zeal and unshakable trust in God’s providence.
Marguerite at the age of 20 believed that she was called to religious life. Her applications to the Carmelites and Poor Clares were unsuccessful.
In 1654, the governor of the French settlement in Canada invited her to come to Canada and start a school in Ville-Marie.
Soon after starting a school, she realized her need for coworkers. Returning to Troyes, she recruited a friend, Catherine Crolo, and two other young women. In 1667 they added classes at their school for Indian children. A second trip to France three years later resulted in six more young women and a letter from King Louis XIV, authorizing the school.
Marguerite established a school for Indian girls in Montreal. At the age of 69, she walked from Montreal to Quebec in response to the bishop’s request to establish a community of her sisters in that city. By the time she died, she was referred to as the “Mother of the Colony.” Marguerite was canonized in 1982.
