FERGUSON, Mo. - An unarmed 18-year-old black man was shot and killed by police in suburban St. Louis after an altercation that involved two people and an officer, authorities said Sunday while hundreds of protesters demanded answers outside.
Police have not officially disclosed the name of the man who was killed, but family members say it was 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Belmar said one of the men pushed the officer back into his squad car and the struggle began. Belmar said at least one shot was fired from the officer's gun inside the police car.
The struggle spilled out into the street, where one of the two people was shot multiple times. Belmar said the exact number of shots wasn't known, but "It was more than just a couple." He also said all shell casings found at the scene matched the officer's gun.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said the man who was shot was unarmed.
Today on Rockafellaz Radio we will talking about the incident that occured Sunday in St. Louis in regards to the shooting of Michael Brown. Your feedback and views on the sitaution. The police actions, the rioting and communities response to the incident.
I will also give some insight as to how the sitaution could have been handled differently, even if it was said that victim Michael Brown was trying to take the officers firearm.
The shooting of young brother Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri has invoked a lot of fear, anger and emotion in black people around the country. The media has tried to paint this young man in a horrible light to warm the jury pool up to an acquittal for this cop if it makes it to court. Media outlets have focused on Looting and other minor things to distract from the poor history of this city and it's relations to African Americans. We will be discussing the issue and what we believe are the solutions for future incidents like this. We can't lose another black life to senseless violence. Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Michael Brown and the countless others who have been gunned down being unarmed in this country just for being young black and male in America.
