New School Designs: Leadership for New Learning Experiences

    in Education

Our June 19 (2pm EST) broadcast will feature a group of innovative leaders who have been at the forefront of designing and implementing new public and charter schools.  The leadership task for these new enterprises is an awesome responsibility.  Engaging communities and inspiring the instructional staff is only a small portion of what is necessary for success in these new schools.  Our panel have been in such a position and will share their challenges, failures and successes so that we can gain understanding and appreciation for what is required in the development of a new school design.
Our guests are: Ms. Sharon Stephens - principal of Madiba Prep in Brooklyn, NY and is finishing her first year as the leader of that school; Ms. Lagra Newman - founding principal of Purpose Academy in Nashville, TN and is preparing to launch her school in September;  and Mr. David Hardy - founding principal of Achievement First Brooklyn who is now working for the NJ Department of Education.
Join us for what will be a dynamic, informative conversation.

    RAIN PRYOR

    in Entertainment

Rain Pryor is an acclaimed director, actor, stand-up comedian, educator, dynamic speaker, and mother. As artistic director of the Strand Theater in Baltimore, MD, Pryor placed the theater on the DC/ Baltimore map, leaving the Strand with a surplus that it had not seen in its five years. She stepped down to start her non-profit Baltimore TheatreWorks. Baltimore TheatreWorks provides performance opportunities and builds a theatre arts culture for grades 6-12 in Baltimore City. Pryor is a headlining stand-up in her own right. She fills her own shoes where stand-up is concerned and is not trying to be her iconic father, Richard Pryor. She has been featured regularly in Baltimore with good friend Mickey Cucchiella. Together, Pryor and Cucchiella are developing many projects. The Baltimore Sun chose Rain as one of 3 area comics to watch.   "Fried Chicken and Latkes" is Pryor's award winning solo show based on her life. It is a irreverent and poignant look at racism. Rain completely created and wrote her show, including adding some original music and lyrics. Rain was a Los Angeles Times "Critics Choice" and her singing voice and sense of timing were hailed as rare gifts. The NY Times "Critic Pick" and review says, “she has an outsized presence built for Broadway." The show is the recipient of the NAACP Theatre Award, Best Female Performer Equity and was recently selected as a Celebrity Solo Performance for the National Black Theatre Festival.   She stops by to chat on Tuesday, June 18, at 7pm EST.

Our scheduled guest is veteran Dali Rivera. As a dedicated wife and mother Dali knows that a well-prepared kitchen is the first step to a great meal. She always dreamed of making products that would make it easier to be a creative cook.
Her dream became a reality when she was accepted into the Entrepreneur Boot Camp for Veterans (EBV) with Disabilities Program, at Syracuse University, NY in 2010.  The program gave Dali the tools she needed to realize her business goals and that same year Elite Revolutionary Solutions, LLC (ERS) was born.
Its mission is to enhance the culinary experience by helping chefs, foodies and home cooks make delicious and nutritional meals as well as for ERS, LLC to become well known for employing veterans and providing its employees with resources pertaining to veterans' needs.
Dali is also a graduate of the Veteran-Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) program. Her passion for food and hard-working attitude has resulted in the creation of some of the most unique products in the food industry.
