Artists You Should Know is all about helping you expand your skill set and becoming a better photographer and business person. Skip Cohen is your host and today's guest is commercial lifestyle photographer, Erik Valind.
Based out of NYC, Erik's skill set goes far beyond just commercial/lifestyle photography. He's a writer, a photo-educator and is regularly involved in various workshops in the photographic industry. Erik is all about energetic imagery. As he works with each subject he focuses on building the relationship. Great images and natural expressions come out of building great trust with each client. There are already two posts on the SCU site related to his work – one about his new book, the other about relationship building and his shoot for Yamaha with Josh Groban.
A big thanks to Erik for taking the time for this podcast and toTamron USA for not only making great glass, but introducing us to Erik and his work!
Artists You Should Know is all about helping you expand your skill set and becoming a better photographer and business person. Skip Cohen is your host and today's guests are a very special couple in professional photography, Beverly and Tim Walden.
Based out of Lexington, Kentucky, they're not just a strong dynamic couple, but incredible artists individually. Their entire careers have been built on a foundation of quality, not just in their skill set and their images, but their friendships and support for the photographic industry. They both redefine the meaning of the word passion and staying true to all the things they believe in.
This podcast is all thanks to Breathing Color, a company built on a foundation of quality as well. For as much as technology has changed imaging over the years, nothing has ever changed the importance quality plays in the final presentation of the printed image.

Golden Dawn discussion with Steven Ashe.
Call in to the show live at (347) 838-8981.
Steven has been interested in Golden Dawn source material since 1979 when he joined a noteworthy esoteric study group. This group had access to unpublished hand penned Golden Dawn manuscripts from the Victorian era and a small set of early John Dee's Enochian manuscripts in the British Library. The Golden Dawn documents and copies of material by Hockley, Merric Causabon, etc had been obtained via the sponsorship of Aleister Crowley's pupil and benefactor Gerald Yorke. This was just prior to Regardie's publishing the second larger Golden Dawn through New Falcon which employs alternate sources from the earlier Llewellyn editions.
Essentially, the Golden Dawn of the Victorian and Edwardian eras synthesized an extant body of esoteric literature and Biblical mythological motifs. This was limited to the scholarship of the time which was passing out of the hands of capable amateurs and those rich enough to fund their own pursuits into the a more organized and self critical academia. An evolution in anthropology was also underway through the school of Malinovsky and Levi-Strauss. This caused a revolution which uprooted armchair anthropologists such as Fraser, whose work The Golden Bough had hitherto dominated the field.
My 'Complete Golden Dawn Initiate' is really a collection of works, many of which would have taken pride of place in the collections of the initiates of elder days - but which, sadly, are themselves only available in hard to obtain collections.
If one were to study the rituals of Freemasonry it would be forgivable to come to the conclusion that the organizations sole purpose was the admission of candidates. In fact, one would not be far wrong. The real business of Freemasonry goes on behind closed doors. So it was with the Golden Dawn.
Artists You Should Know is all about helping you expand your skill set and become a better photographer and business person. Skip Cohen is your host and today's guest is Nate Grahek, founder of Sticky Albums.
So many of you have unique ideas, concepts to raise the bar on the way photographers do business, their workflow or maybe it’s a technique. The challenge is getting your message out there in an industry that’s constantly changing. Nate and Skip had a chance to talk a little while at ShutterFest and it just seemed like a great idea to continue the conversation here on the SCU Podcast.
Nick is a photographer, educator, tech maven and entrepreneur. He's passionate about helping others do more of what they love. After seeing his own portrait clients reaction to the custom mobile apps he was building for them, Nate founded StickyAlbums.com in 2012 to let all photographers easily create custom branded mobile apps for each of their clients, grow their word-of-mouth referrals, and their business.

Thomas R. North was born into a military family visited by tragedy when Tom was just six years old. His father was killed in the crash of an experimental jet aircraf. His mother, Helen North, moved from Washington state to California and married another military officer, who turned out to be ultra-violent and a child molester.
As the award-winning author of True North – The Shocking Truth about “Yours, Mine and Ours”, Tom writes about his experience as the 11th of the 20 Beardsley children, made famous in the 1968 film “Yours, Mine and Ours.” Tom shares in True North – The Shocking Truth about “Yours, Mine and Ours” what it was like to grow up in that family, taking the road less traveled through violence and despair, to hope, and eventually to self-discovery and a fulfilling life.
Tom was guided to seek solace and sanity in nature, and later, in Eastern Meditation. Tom has written extensively about scuba diving, jade hunting in the wilds of Big Sur, and spiritual topics as well. He is working on his second book, The Economics of Spiritual Transformation.
