    Sony Allen, President of National Association of Seadogs, Nigerian in Japan

    We are honored to reach the president of NAS , Mr. Allen Omoruyi Sonny.  He leads approximately 1000 Nigerians living in Japan.  When he was asked “Who is sponsoring the organization?” he answered “ourselves” candidly suggesting the hardship of living in Japan as Nigerians.  As an organization to support women and children in Nigeria, SWACIN is glad to know the Nigerian organization in Japan to say the least, as we have searched them throughout Japan past two years!  He has graduated from University of Bennin, Nigeria, earned BSC (Mathematics)  After working for Ministry of Education in Nigeria for years, he got married to a Japanese woman, and now runs personal computer sales business.  He says, his organization, “National Association of Seadogs (NAS) is a registered Nigerian charitable and humanitarian organization, founded by  a Nigerian playwright and poet, Wole Soyinka and six other students in 1952. Mr. Soyinka was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first African to be honored.  It began as a University Campus group but has grown into an international organization with branches in 36 states of Nigeria overseas including Japan, South Africa, UK, Republic of Ireland, USA, The Netherland and Canada. NAS is dedicated to humanitarian and charitable endeavors within Nigeria and whatever society the members find themselves.”

    1st Nigerian Diaspora Teleforum: Transforming Nigeria

    An Important Nigerian Independence Day Event (October 1st, 12 PM EST)


    “Nigerian Diaspora Tele-Forum”


    An Initiative Endorsed by Ambassador Habu.


    Please be informed that the petition to host regular meetings with the Diaspora representatives and the Nigeria consulate abroad was approved by Ambassador Habib Habu before he left office. We are now in the process of integrating the program as an adopted policy. This is one of the reasons we will be having the first Nigerian Diaspora Teleforum on October 1st, 2015 to mark the Nigerian Independence Day.  The forum will serve as a preparation towards the actual launching of the Nigerian Diaspora Forum scheduled to take place on October 31st, 2015 at the Nigeria Consulate in New York. We ask for your support and solidarity in our collective effort to transform Nigeria in becoming a nation that reflects the true value of its best citizens.


    Once the program goes live, listeners will see a Skype icon appear next to the guest call-in number, which they need to click on. This will ask listeners to log into an account or to register for a listener account. Once they do, they will need to follow the prompts to call in..

    Guest: Nnimmo Bassey, "How have the Rights of Nigerian Poor been Taken Away"

    Nnimmo Bassey is director of an ecological think-tank, Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) and Coordinator of Oilwatch International. Bassey has authored books on the environment, architecture and poetry. He was chair of Friends of the Earth International (2008-2012) and Executive Director of Nigeria’s Environmental Rights Action (1993-2013). He was a co-recipient of the 2010 Right Livelihood Award also known as the “Alternative Noble Prize.” In 2012 he received the Rafto Human Rights Award. In 2014 he received Nigeria’s national honour as Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) in recognition of his environmental activism. His book, To Cook a Continent - Destructive Extraction and the Climate Crisis in Africa (Pambazuka Press, 2012) has been translated in Portuguese and Finnish (2014).
