New Orleans native and historical researcher, Barbara Trevigne, will share with us some least known aspects about African American history in New Orleans. A descendant of New Orleans' Free People of Color population, Trevigne will discuss her work on the legendary "Vooddo Queen", Marie Laveau.

The Houmas House in Darrow, Louisiana is an antebellus plantation and sister property of the famous Greenbrier Resort in Virginia. This historical jewel sits between New Orleans and Baton Rouge and contains a treasure trove of history within its walls. We were pleased to spend a day with the planation's colorful owner, entrepreneur Kevin Kelly and learn what he is doing to preserve Houmas House as a living history and decorative arts showcase.
Then, the greatest act of slave resistance in American history took place in 1811 just outside of New Orleans and has remained largely untold, until now. Author Daniel Rasmussen joins us to discuss his book, American Uprising: The Untold Story of America's Largest Slave Revolt, and shed new light on the great American paradox--slavery.

Journalist ALAN GELL sits down with KELLY SCHULZ at the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau to discuss tourism in the Crescent City. Kelly Schulz is the Vice-President of the CVB in charge of Communications and Public Relations. The New Orleans CVB is consistently recognized as one of the top five CVBs in the country. The offices are located on St Charles Ave in the Garden District. It is an easy (and inexpensive) trolley ride from the Canal Street area, French Quarter, and Central Business District over to the Garden District and the tolley stops in front of the CVB. Merrell Merricks was born in New Orleans, La. to Gilbert and Bettye Merricks. The second of four boys, he was raised in the New Orleans lower ninth ward by his grandparents. His grandmother Rev Ida Mae Youngblood introduced him to God at an early age. Mr. Merricks obtained a Bachelor & Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Southern University at New Orleans. Merrell joined the military where he served in Operation Desert Storm. In 1997, Merrell joined the New Orleans Police Department where he is presently employed. He has also served as a patrolman, auto theft investigator & a school resource officer during his 20+ years in law enforcement. Mr. Merricks’ blessing was assisting families whom he helped evacuate the city during Hurricane Katrina with now returning back to their homes. Detective Merricks returned to the New Orleans Police Department where he is currently assigned to the Department’s Special Victim Section. He serves as a Cold Case Detective for the Sex Crimes Unit as well as a Child Abuse Investigator. He implemented a program called “Teen Sex and The Law” where he educates today’s teens with laws associated with sexual assaults. His purpose and passion is to prevent young adults from becoming casualties of the criminal justice system. Detective Merricks has had extensive training in the field of Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Investigation. He has attended numerous training sessions with the U.S Dept of Justice, The Center for Missing and Exploited Children, The National Children Advocacy Center, The Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention He is the father of a beautiful teenage daughter Torre Merricks.
