For those of you who may not know and ask the question who is Gordon Gekko? Gordon Gekko was a character made famous by Michael Douglas in an Oliver Stone film called “Wall Street” in 1987 but what made Gordon Gekko more famous was his saying which many have embraced and swear by today. The character said that greed was good and since then many have been trying to prove this statement. Most dictionaries define greed as “an excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth” and in that regards many say this is what makes it bad and not a good thing. They say greed makes one selfish and insensitive to the needs of others because they are so consumed with their needs only. They say that greed leads many to risk their very soul to obtain that high again and again never getting enough of living by a means envied by others. I must say I agree with many of these takes and know deep within my heart of hearts that greed is and never will be good, but by the same token, I also know that greed is and always will be necessary.
Too often in life we are encouraged to put ourselves last. The truth is... we need to realize that the self comes first! The 'whole' is comprised of a multitude of distinct facets and playing your part to the fullest requires you navigate the world in truth with the full understanding that Self Is Necessary.
Today's episode of Self is Necessary focuses on the recognition of the balancing of physical and spiritual components when creating a life for ourselves in a physical body here on Planet Earth. Come join Delrae J Bantz and Mary K Weinhagen of the Life Learning Center of Self as we talk about both sides of the coin, so to speak. We'd love to have you join the conversation!

Ying and Yang... two principles, one negative, dark, and feminine (ying) and one positive, bright, and masculine (yang) whose interaction influences our creations.
It's more than the old 'two-sides' to every issue... if we want to create the life we desire it will happen faster (and cleaner) when we balance the physical and spiritual aspects of each experience we have and choice we make.
Today Delrae and Mary K will be highlighting a couple of different topics and exploring the ying and the yang. Please feel free to join the conversation!
We are, however, commanded to be filled with the Spirit, which means to be controlled by the Spirit (Eph. 5:18). The disciples on the Day of Pentecost were not only baptized with the Spirit. Also they all were filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4). While the baptism of the Spirit is a one-time event, being filled with the Spirit happens repeatedly (see Acts 4:8, 31; 6:5; 7:55; 9:17; 13:9). To be filled with the Spirit, we must empty ourselves by confessing all known sin and by dying to self. We must yield ourselves fully to the Lord and depend on Him step by step (“walking in the Spirit,” Gal. 5:16). Being filled with the Spirit is also called (in a parallel passage) letting the word of Christ richly dwell in you (Col. 3:16; see Eph. 5:18 and context). The human being must consider it his/her duty to enjoy the abundance of his/her life, if it is a kind of life which is righteous and evolutive. But, in order to achieve the abundance of the provision, the creation and maintenance of a neutral-positive-equalised attitude is necessary; consequently, it must never be forgotton that a gloomy attitude constantly chases away the abundance and the prosperity.
Today we will talk with Delrae of the Life Learning Center of Self, about the distinction between joy and happiness as well as the importance of them in our lives. Questions have arisen recently after Lakewood Church co-pastor Victoria Osteen received backlash from the Christian community after video footage of an August sermon surfaced showing Osteen encouraging congregants to "do good for your own self." -- with one church leader speaking about Ms Osteen's naivete about the difference between joy and happiness.
Are joy and happiness simply different degrees of the same feeling? Or are they truly two entirely different things?
Please join us today in conversation as we explore these questions and the roles of joy and happiness in our lives.
