Teresa Weatherall Neal has worked for GRPS for 35 years. She started out as a student worker as a teenager. She has worked in numerous capacities throughout the district including as an Administrative Assistant, Coordinator of Compliance, and Co-Director of Community and Student Service. Just prior to her appointment to Superintendent, she worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Community and Student Affairs for seven years.
She has a love for both the students of Grand Rapids and the city itself. She, herself, is a product of Grand Rapids. She comes from a large family with deep roots in the City. She is proud of her education in GRPS and will brag to anyone that she attended South Middle School and graduated from Creston High School.
In her State of the Schools Address, Superintendent Neal made a statement that seemed to resonate with many people in the District and in the community. She stated, “These are our students, our schools, and this is our City.” She truly believes this and is working, and has charged her staff to work, with that statement in mind

Many of us have had experiences where we have had poor services provided by professionals. If a pastor is blatantly immoral or unethical in their professional capacity, should members of the church be able to file malpractice actions against them? Drawing from the recent legal woes of Memphis pastor Frank Ray, what can members do to be proactive in their faith while holding pastors accountable for ethical violations in ministry? When it comes to ministry, should pastors be subject to liability and even legal action for providing poor services to members/nonmembers? How and to whom should the pastor be liable if there are valid complaints regarding their public ministry? Join Pastor Neal for this topic on Zera Today

A recent article posted in the Atlanta Black Star listed 8 pastors whose income is 200x greater than that of their congregants. Here is the link to the article: http://atlantablackstar.com/2014/06/26/8-black-pastors-whose-net-worth-is-200-times-greater-than-folks-in-their-local-community/ Among those listed are several Nigerian pastors whose combined wealth is over 100 million US dollars. The debate on how and how much pastors should be compensated is an age old one. The underlying question for Western Christianity is how much is too much for a pastor's compensation package and when do other items cross into excess? Should pastors/clergy have their own planes, luxury cars and homes, and other toys, or should their wealth reflect the communities they serve. Join Pastor Neal for this and other lively topics.
Have you been working on getting healthy but find it to be a struggle? Don’t stop because your breakthrough is right around the corner – it truly is but you need to look at it with a new perspective or fresh eyes. Not sure what I mean? The best way to explain it is to stop and look at how far you’ve come since you first started your journey. For me my “aha” moment really came after my hysterectomy when two weeks after surgery and off the pain medication, I felt good. REALLY GOOD. Three years ago, I would not have been able to write that for you to read but I did notice little breakthroughs throughout my journey.
Having always been active, exercise was not my issue because no matter how “fluffy” I may have been, I always exercised even if it was just to take a walk. The reason exercise has never been my issue is because it keeps my stress in check and it is a part of my day just like everything else on my list. On the other hand, I was not as successful with my eating. Eating correctly and in the right amounts are my issues. As I started training for my first triathlon, I also started completing 5K’s, 10K’s and a half marathon. None of these events had been on my radar before I began my triathlon training but I quickly found that I enjoyed them. What really opened my eyes to what was happening with my body is on the days that I ate well and really paid attention to what I was putting on my plate and ultimately in my body, I performed better whether it was running, biking or even the hour Zumba class. Have you heard that saying “You’re only as good as your last meal?” Nothing could be more true. The better my food choices were, the better my physical level would be. When I ate crap, my physical and energy levels would be poor.
