Lakeside Nature Center has been in existence since 1966 as a nature center with animal displays, and environmental programming.  Today we are located in a fantastic building designed for children of all ages to learn and explore.  We are the only Center of its kind in MO combining Conservation, educational programming, about 70 display animals, and Missouri’s largest full native species wildlife rehab center.

We started taking in injured, sick and orphaned wildlife for wildlife rehab about 35 years ago.  Last year we had a very busy rehab year and took in over 2800 animals.  We take in only native Mo animals, and of the 2800 131 were birds of prey.

The Green Scene - Maidenhair Ferns

    in Education

On Friday, May 22 at 8:00 pm eastern, 7:00 pm central and 5:00 pm Pacific on the Green Scene Hour,a discussion on Maidenhair Ferns. Join Ken McKeighen and Ken Boorman as they discuss the natural history and care and keeping of these beautiful and graceful ferns. Amazing plants that are a Native plant of North America. Maidenhair fern history is quite interesting. Its genus name translates to “non wetting” and refers to the fronds’ ability to shed rainwater without becoming wet. In addition, the plant is the source of an aromatic, volatile oil commonly used as a shampoo, which is where its common name of maidenhair derived.

    SF #196 - Success = Preperation + Opportunity

    in Motivation

Are you waiting for opportunity to arrive before doing your prep work?  Why bother learning a skill, memorizing a speech, setting money aside before you have something to work for?  Because, Success = Preparation + Opportunity.  How well and how quickly you move towards your desired goal is directly related to your level of preparedness when opportunities come knocking on your door.

This episode, Mordant & McFall speak frankly about why it is important to get ready before your dreams begin showing up in earnest.  If it’s something you really want to show up in your life, you should hunt it down and work on it, revel in it, master it time and again - because you love it!  And, because doing your due diligence means you’ll be more than ready to step forward and carpe that diem the moment your opportunity shows up.
