On March 1, 2004, Shuvender (Shubi) Sem, at the Maharishi University, stabbed another student in the face with a pen during a class. Told by university staff that he did not require medical attention, the injured student drove himself to the hospital where he received seven stitches. University officials consulted a psychologist and decided that Sem would have to leave the university-but didn't report the incident to police. Sem didn't appear dangerous or agitated and was taken by Joel Wysong, the school's dean of men, to his on-campus apartment until he could take a flight home the next morning. Left unattended, Sem took a paring knife from Wysong's kitchen and went to the university's dining hall. Wysong followed and watched while Sem interacted with other students, but did not take him back into custody. Ten minutes later and without provocation, Sem stabbed another student, freshman Levi Butler, four times in the chest, killing him.
Sem, who was a diagnosed schizophrenic, reportedly had been off his medication for months at the time of the murder. After initially being declared incompetent, Sem was subsequently deemed competent to stand trial. The judge ruled Sem not guilty by reason of insanity.
Murder and Misunderstanding offers unparalleled insight into the experience of paranoid schizophrenia.
Sem's strained relationship with his father ultimately set in motion a chain of events which led to his downward spiral. He began to have auditory hallucinations and wrestled with schizophrenia for years, falling further into madness and then-murder. MURDER AND MISUNDERSTANDING-ONE MAN'S ESCAPE FROM INSANITY-Shubi Sem

Tonight's Guest is Tanjila Lippett, the mother of murdered Karvas Gamble Jr.. Karvas Gamble Jr. was murdered on January 16, 2013 by agents of the Orlando Police Department (OPD) - namely Detective Chris Bigelow.
According to news articles, "A grand jury investigated the death of then 19-year-old Karvas Gamble Jr., after being shot at a recording studio by Orlando police officers, and found no probable cause to charge the officers involved.
The grand jury did, however, admonish the department, saying the shooting "should not have happened."
"We appreciate the work of the grand jury we will continue to evaluate info provided there in and make appropriate changes," Sgt. Roger Brennan said.
In January, eight officers entered a recording studio on Arlington Street after getting a drug tip.
The officers opened firing, shooting two men. One man was hurt and another, Karvas Gamble, was killed.
The grand jury blamed the shooting on poor police planning and communication.
The investigation found that the men couldn't hear police officers because of their loud music and could not see their uniforms because of the lack of light.
Drugs and guns were found in the recording studio."
To this day, there have been no arrest in the shooting death of Karvas Gamble Jr. Also joining us tonight is Mr. Kareem Gamble (Karvas's Brother) who witnessed the shooting death of his brother, and the Pastor of Garden of Praise Ministries where the incident occurred. The pastor's son was also shot in this altercation.

Tonight is an introduction to next week's show Legalized Murder. Next week I will have as my guest a Viet Nam Combat War Veteran I met recently. WE were discussing the U.S. re-engagement of military forces in Iraq. And he said, yeah, more legalized murder. So tonight I am going to look at the philosophy of war and the progression from war to defense and prepare the way for me to discuss war as legalized murder with an actual combat war veteran.

Last week we talked about building legendary teams in the inner game of business, and this week we’re going to talk about how millennials are different, but not as different as companies think.
There continues to be so much hubbub about millennials taking over the world of work, with lots of research around it, but unfortunately no one is taking the time or making the plans to manage them.
It’s like businesses are playing the anthropologists, watching from afar, taking notes but avoiding interaction at all costs — until, of course, they have to hire them — millennials are expected to make up 75 percent of the workforce by 2025.
There are many myths about millennials that abound, however, that should be addressed sooner rather than later, according to new research conducted by Oxford Economics, commissioned by Successfactors/SAP.
Join TalentCulture #TChat Show co-creator and co-host Meghan M. Biro as we learn more about why we misunderstand millennials and how we should change that with this week’s guests: Jacob Morgan, author of “The Future of Work” and Co-Founder of Chess Media Group; Dr. Karie Willyerd, SVP Learning & Social Adoption at SuccessFactors, an SAP Company; and Christa Manning, Senior Vice President of Research at Horses for Sources (HfS).
Thank you to all our sponsors and partners including SAP/SuccessFactors, Red Branch Media and HRmarketer Insight.
