When filming his TV series Race Relations, John Safran spent an uneasy couple of days with one of Mississippi's most notorious white supremacists. A year later, he heard that the man had been murdered – and what was more, the killer was black.
At first the murder seemed a twist on the old Deep South race crimes. But then more news rolled in. Maybe it was a dispute over money, or most intriguingly, over sex. Could the infamous racist actually have been secretly gay, with a thing for black men? Did Safran have the last footage of him alive? Could this be the story of a lifetime? Seizing his Truman Capote moment, he jumped on a plane to cover the trial.
Over six months, Safran got deeper and deeper into the South, becoming entwined in the lives of those connected with the murder – white separatists, black campaigners, lawyers, investigators, neighbours, even the killer himself. And the more he talked with them, the less simple the crime, and the world, seemed.
Murder in Mississippi is a brilliantly innovative true-crime story. Taking us places only he can, Safran paints an engrossing, revealing portrait of a dead man, his murderer, the place they lived and the process of trying to find out the truth about anything. MURDER IN MISSISSIPPI-John Safran

On January 10, 2013, Kendrick Johnson's parents reported their 17 year-old son missing. The next day at Kendrick's school, Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia, in the gym students saw what they thought was a pair of socks sticking out of a gym mat, but when they approached they told investigators they realized it was a body. According to Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine, Kendrick Johnson died while reaching into an upright gym mat in the old gym on Jan. 10 trying to retrieve a sneaker that had fallen inside, instead Kendrick fell in, couldn't get out and smothered to death from positional asphyxiation.
The original autopsy report ruled Johnson's death an accident, stating that the teen suffocated after getting stuck in a gym mat while reaching for a sneaker. However, Johnson's parents weren't convinced it was an accident, and they got a court order to have their son's body exhumed. The second autopsy report showed the teen's death was not an accident, stating that Johnson had sustained "non-accidental, blunt force trauma."
During an autopsy, internal organs are removed and examined before being returned for burial. But when the private pathologist who conducted the second autopsy on Johnson opened up the teen's remains, the brain, heart, lungs, liver and other viscera were missing. Every organ from the pelvis to the skull was gone and had been replaced with newspaper.

On March 1, 2004, Shuvender (Shubi) Sem, at the Maharishi University, stabbed another student in the face with a pen during a class. Told by university staff that he did not require medical attention, the injured student drove himself to the hospital where he received seven stitches. University officials consulted a psychologist and decided that Sem would have to leave the university-but didn't report the incident to police. Sem didn't appear dangerous or agitated and was taken by Joel Wysong, the school's dean of men, to his on-campus apartment until he could take a flight home the next morning. Left unattended, Sem took a paring knife from Wysong's kitchen and went to the university's dining hall. Wysong followed and watched while Sem interacted with other students, but did not take him back into custody. Ten minutes later and without provocation, Sem stabbed another student, freshman Levi Butler, four times in the chest, killing him.
Sem, who was a diagnosed schizophrenic, reportedly had been off his medication for months at the time of the murder. After initially being declared incompetent, Sem was subsequently deemed competent to stand trial. The judge ruled Sem not guilty by reason of insanity.
Murder and Misunderstanding offers unparalleled insight into the experience of paranoid schizophrenia.
Sem's strained relationship with his father ultimately set in motion a chain of events which led to his downward spiral. He began to have auditory hallucinations and wrestled with schizophrenia for years, falling further into madness and then-murder. MURDER AND MISUNDERSTANDING-ONE MAN'S ESCAPE FROM INSANITY-Shubi Sem
This book examines the effectiveness and efficiency of the typologies of lust murder (erotophonophilia) advocated by contemporary researchers, specifically, Godwin, Holmes and Holmes; Keppel and Walter; Kocsis, Cooksey, and Irwin. The behavior and activities exhibited by offenders that distinguish lust murderers from among other types of serial murderers are presented through a multiple case studies analysis of the offenders' psychosocial histories and offense patterns. The lust murderers examined include Theodore Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Dennis Rader. The book proposes the need for a composite typology technique in order to have a more promising approach in identifying a suspect pool from a broader range of psychosocial, offense activities, and particular offender characteristics to aid in investigations. The study advocates that a primary function of the development of typologies is to provide aid and assistance in the investigation of violent crime, specifically violent sexualized homicides. With a unifying theory or model that explains the offense aspects, distinguishes significant crime scene activities, victim targeting, and variances of significant or available forensic findings will result in the viability of typologies as effective tools in the criminal investigation of lust murder. Norris claimed that Cameron had broke into a residence to steal guns in the middle of the night at approximately 3:30 a.m. after a 911 call was placed by Kara Bales who lived at the residence in Tombstone Az. Norris claims that after entering the residence through a broken window in the laundry room door that opened inside the home he had his service weapon drawn in one hand and flashlight in the other as they entered the home. A border patrol agent Kevin Stack followed behind him as they searched the home until they found Kara hiding in the bottom of the closet. Norris was startled and jumped back and then he asked Kara "where is he?" she pointed to a smaller closet next to the one she was in and said "he's in there" "he's in there" Norris got down on one knee and fired 4 times two of those shots hitting Cameron. The first bullet went straight through Camerons thigh breaking the bone making him fall backwards and putting him on his back he went into a sitting position the second bullet went through his wrist after he put his hands up to show Norris he wasnt armed and the other two bullets went through the wall. Norris then walked over to cameron putting a bullet through his neck that came out the side of his body and then the 6th bullet through his heart ending his young life. Upon the so called investigation Norris was placed on paid administrative leave until further notic.
