The media has brought to the forefront cases that have caused public outrage and concern. From the curious case of Trayvon Martin killed by George Zimmerman, Michael Brown gunned down as an unarmed felon, to the disturbing incidents surrounding the death of Sandra Bland, there is a definite rise in racial tensions across the United States as the media blares a giant searchlight on situations of African Americans in some sort of confrontation with a Caucasian.
When these incidents come into the public eye, they lead to an overarching question: "Why?" One black man made a very famous statement while being beaten by a group of police officers: "Can't we all just get along?" The statement has been taken seriously and at the same time, been made a parody. But the question, however one puts it remains. "Can't we all just get along?"
Is racism simply part of America's DNA -- what makes up this country? Is this just a thing we have to live with and accept? Will those who try to work to bring harmony on either side be ridiculed? Why can't we as a nation get past this? Why does it keep rearing its head?

The stories are becoming all too familiar - Oscar Grant, John Crawford III, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, and many others whose names don't make national headlines. #BlackLivesMatter has become the cry of the African-American community as the lives of young Black men and women are taken at the hands of police while unarmed. Why are people of color stopped, searched, arrested, and killed in disproportionate numbers compared to their Caucasian counterparts? How can unarmed "suspects" such as John Crawford III or Oscar Grant get shot on site when people who commit heinous acts - such as James Eagan Holmes who killed 12 and injured 70 in a crowded movie theatre - are arrested and given every benefit of the doubt? Let's discuss it and find some real solutions beyond the hashtags. Because of the nature of this subject matter, parental discresion is advised for children under 13.

Composer, multi-instrumentalist, engineer and producer, Robert Slap is a native of Detroit, Michigan. His music spans a wide spectrum of styles that include blues, rock, new age, jazz and film music. Born August 24, 1951, Slap grew up in the working class communities of Hamtramck and Roseville, learning to play trumpet at the age of 10. He played in his school concert and marching bands, and also performed with several drum and bugle corps. The classical training he received would benefit him later in life when pursuing a career as a music composer. By age 12, Robert’s interests were dominated by playing guitar (self taught) and tinkering with electronic equipment, radios, speakers, etc. Little did he know that these “hobbies” would determine the course of his life. His philosophy is, "Music is made to generate emotional response; life is a tapestry of ever-changing moods, colors, textures, and emotion. It reflects life and touches our souls' strings, pulling feelings out with passion into the open. It is the only medium through which I can truly express my innermost feelings."
Rachel Dolezal has brought a term to her pretending to be black controversy which caused her to have to resign her new position as leader of the NAACP in Spokane Washington. She has used the term Trans-Racial and speaks about her identity in similar terms as a transgender person does. She speaks of at the age of 5 years old coloring with the brown crayon instead of the peach crayon. She says that she "identifies" herself as a black woman and not a white woman.
So what is trans-racial?
Is this a real term? Or did Ms. Dolezal just make it up?
Can a Black person identify with being white even if they are very dark skinned?
What are your thoughts on Rachel Dolezal?

The 20th anniversary of the Million Man March is being promoted with the words "Justice or Else!" What's the or else? In recent speech, Minister Louis Farrakhan called for African Americans to boycott Christmas as a response to racial injustice. How can we force justice by the withdrawal of our 1.9 trillion dollars from the U.S. economy during the season most businesses depend upon for their yearly profits? Who are we hoping to hurt with our boycott? How will their financial distress lead to a change of discriminatory laws? The procecution of police who killed citizens? The passing of sensible gun laws? The release of falsely accused prisoners? Do we need to work out a specific strategy to make sure our lack of buying gifts for friends and family produces the desired effects? Will enough people participate? Do we need to tie this boycott to a specific piece of legislation? Give us your views on the meaning of "justice or else!" What threat can we collectively carry out that can force a change and bring justice
