The mine is mountain top coal strip mining which poses major threats to Birmingham's drinking water. Nelson Brooke, the Black Warrior Riverkeeper, will join us as we discuss the current status of the proposal, threats to Birmingham and ongoing efforts to prevent the destruction of the land owned by the University of Alabama.
Nelson Brooke ~ Riverkeeper
Nelson Brooke, a Birmingham native, graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with an anthropology degree. Nelson is an Eagle Scout and outdoor enthusiast who has enjoyed fishing and hunting along the banks of the Black Warrior River since he was seven years old. Nelson has been Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s staff Riverkeeper since January of 2004. He also served as Executive Director from August 2007 through December 2009. Nelson was named “2010 Alabama River Hero” by the Alabama Rivers Alliance.
As Riverkeeper, Nelson patrols and photographs the Black Warrior River and its tributaries from the land, water, and air, looks for pollution problems, responds to citizen complaints, researches and analyzes polluters’ permits, collects pollution samples for laboratory analysis, educates the public about the beauty of the river and threats to it, works to empower stakeholders throughout the watershed, advocates compliance with environmental laws, works on finding solutions to pollution problems, and is a spokesman for the Black Warrior River watershed. Nelson runs our Riverkeeper Patrol Program and coordinates with our Legal Program when appropriate. Nelson is available to give educational presentations to your school, civic organization, or club.

Writer & Producer Ray Quick Bio: Ray Quick is the son of Clarence Quick; founder and original member of the legendary 1950's Doo wop group the Del-Vikings. Quick's father is responsible for writing two of the greatest hits in rock and roll music history; "Come Go With Me" and "Whispering Bells". The Del-Vikings broke the racial barrier becoming one of the first integrated rock and roll groups to ever achieve world wide success. Their music and style was a major influence in the start of the legendary "Beatles".
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Ray Quick attended college at Cheyney University in PA. It was there where his love for writing screenplays, theater, books and music developed.
Ray Quick now resides in the MD, DC and VA metro area. You can certainly look forward to seeing his stage play touring nationally as well as the release of his first book due out late 2014 entitled "A Broken Mirror", a fictional love story truly testing the meaning of unconditional love.

Her goal is to provide Educational Seminars and resources for victims and families dealing with domestic violence, mental and emotional stress, and substance abuse that weaken the family structure and values. These seminars are to help improve parenting skills, promote abstinence among our youth, and provide Christian counseling relating to family values and issues. Apostle Loretta Williams has networked with Community Agencies such as The Community Action Agency of Calhoun County (CAA) The Southwestern Michigan Urban League and various churches including The United Methodist Church, The Church of God, Pentecostal Assemblies of The World and other Christian Denominations. She has been a motivational instructor and teacher for many seminars, workshops and conferences, including The Minority Businesses Association. Many of these community churches and organizations have assisted her with resources, teaching materials and referred other educators to help promote Strengthening the Families Outreach Ministries Programs which airs on Tuesdays on Fresh Manna Our Daily Bread Blog Talk Radio.

Let them be, don't stoop to their level. It probably feels good to retaliate but trust me, its much sweeter when God does it for you... let's talk about it. .
