January 15, 2002 will be a day Jason Mirkitani will never forget. On that fateful day, just 3 1/2 years of being happily married to his wife Jill and raising their daughter Abby, Jason's life as he knew it came to a screeching halt.
On Small Changes Big Shifts, Jason recalls that tragic day with host, Dr. Michelle Robin and explains why he believes he is still alive and how the accident changed him and put him on the path he walks today.
Jason and his wife Jill had been married for 3 1/2 years and were living a wonderful, happy life with their daughter. On January 15th, 2002 is when everything changed for them.
On that particular day Jason, Jill, Jakie, Jon and Abby were on their way to Houston. It was such a windy day, there were strong gust of wind that would cause his vehicle to rock and make it difficult to keep his car on the highway.
At 'Mile Marker 825' is were the strongest gust of wind forced the car onto the shoulder of the highway, Jason tried to correct his small SUV back to the road, but instead it flipped 5 times going across the median and was then hit by a tractor-trailor truck.
Jill was killed intantly, Jason's skull was cracked open, his neck was severly jarred, and part of his brain fell out onto his sleeve. Everyone else in the car was alright. But nobody expected Jason to survive such trauma.
Jason spent 5 weeks in a hospital before he was able to think correctly and recall enough of the details of the accident to understand that his beloved wife, Jill, had died and the significant impact that event would have on his and Abby's (his daughter) lives.

Family of Humanity, we are reaching out to the world, teaching about Nature's Laws which represent how to live in peace and harmony, in Oneness with all things. We teach about how love works and how each and every thought or action that humanity has affects the Web of Life and the electro-magnetic elements of Mother Earth. We are all made of these elements, the Earth, Air, Water and Fire, and what we do and think imprints upon them and replays itself.
The Sacred Sites of the world from the mountain peaks to the rivers, oceans to the pyramids, are what keep the Earth and all her living beings charged with life force energy, with Chi or Ka. The world was put together in sacred geometric patterns, circles within circles, which have been de-harmonized through humanity's mining, development, thoughts and actions and these influences have affected most all sacred sites or places worldwide.
As the many middle-mile networks built by federal broadband stimulus, state and some private-sector efforts light up, broadband is not magically appearing on residential and business doorsteps as some local broadband champions mistakenly expected to happen. There's a lot of finger pointing, wailing and gnashing of teeth in communities as they subsequently try to figure out how to move last-mile projects forward.
OneCommunity announced a $2 million Big Gig Challenge grant to help public and private entities build community fiber networks in the nonprofit's 2,000-mile, 11-county coverage area. Their middle-mile fiber network is dedicated to propelling northeastern Ohio to the forefront of broadband innovation.
Listeners who want to move the last-mile ball forward despite the challenges to finding money and other resources will learn much from OneCommunity's COO Brent Lindsay and Economic Development Manager Liz Forester. They discuss the grant program and offer recommendations for other entities that want to create similar programs to drive last-mile buildouts to connect with middle mile infrastructure. Money is important, but Lindsay and Forester also describe the types of programs that must be in place so communities can maximize grants and other funding.

We focus a lot on response in EMS. Our response allong with our training can effect patient outcomes. But what about when response is the focus without equal attention to training. Getting there is only part of what we do, yet is often the one marker that is looked at when it comes to a patients outcome.
This week we talk about EMS response, call types, training and how they reflect on patient outcomes.
Does the 8-10 minute response have a positive impact or is it better training and equipment?

Steve Allen is our guest tonight. On January 8, 2008, Stephenville gained national media attention when dozens of residents reported observations of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Several residents described the crafts as the size of a football field, while others said they were nearly a mile long, similar to the historic Arizona mass sighting of March 13, 1997. Some observers reported military aircraft pursuing the objects. CNN's Larry King covered the news story in the days following the incident, and according to Steve Allen, a private pilot who witnessed the UFO, the object was travelling at a high rate of speed which supposedly reached 3,000 feet in the air. Allen said it was "About a half a mile wide and about a mile long. It was humongous, whatever it was". (wikipedia) The History Channel show UFO Hunters featured a story about the UFO sightings. "In mid January, 2008 reports of a mass UFO sighting over Stephenville, Texas began to make national news. Much like the Phoenix Lights Case of 1997, the mysterious lights appearing in the Texas sky were seen by multiple witnesses including police officers. However, much of the interest was created by the proximity of the sightings to President Bush’s Texas ranch. Although the military initially stated that there were no jets flying in the area that night, they later recanted and stated that a training flight of 10 fighters was actually in the skies. The incident inspired one of the largest MUFON investigations to date and yielded radar information that is considered by many to confirm that an unknown object was flying over Texas. The incident was featured in a number of national news stories and by several television shows". (M. Lauck) The full report of this case is at http://www.ufocasebook.com/pdf/mufonstephenvilleradarreport.pdf
