Keeping It Real - Dream Catchers - LesPaul Morgan
Keeping it real to me means taking charge of our future and having the courage to do something meaningful with it!
As survivors we need to develop new strategies and coping skills and realize that whatever happened bad in your life doesn’t define us it’s what you do about the rest of your lfe that defines you destiny!!!
I was very encorged to speak with a large number of disability youth leaders this week while at the APRIL the voice of rural Independent Living conference with Craig Sicilia and let me tell you these youg people are really wonderful people to be around because they are very Insiring and motivational to be around!!!!
So tonight I am going to be asking some tough questions that will take a lot of courage to answer but they need to be asked because are we going to let disability define us or are we will to define who we are by daring to be different no matter what.
Join in tonight on Dream Catchers with Les Paul and lets come up with Ideas together to Keep It Real!!!!
With Brain Injury Radio Leading the way on with a Global effort and working with Leaders from the Brain Injury Association from South Carolina, Georga, Indiana and others we are building a survivor based peer support and advocacy team of leaders!
I don't personalliy have a service animal but I have seen one and it amazed me. I have also come across some pretty disturbing stories about these incredible little helpers, being thrown in the trunk of a taxi. I'm going to read the what the Americans with Disabilities Act says businesses can and cannot do to and with service animals. Also, an incredible update from a great advocate, Brent Feuz in New York. You won't want to miss what Brent is going to tell our community that he accompliished with his Brain Injury Protocol, yesterday.Lots to talk about tonight, please join us and tell us your story about either having or seeing a service animal. 424-243-9540 to call in and listen on your phone or click on this link and scroll down to the bottom of the page after signing in and contribute to the live chat as well as listen on your computer.
Live from the independent living conference
this is where we belong

Our question to the people providing these services how do they assist people living with brain injury,
How can survivors access the service
Does their agency currently provide services specific that would bennefit people living with a brain injury
How is what you provide worth the effort trying to work with your agency
Why do you think independence is important, why the hell should i care
Getting Personal with Lisa Vick talk show strives to provide a forum that allows for open, honest, candid, and yes, sometimes tough-love conversations about life, love, pain, and closure.
There is never any judgment or bias because self-love and committed-love should be promoted in all relationships. There is no right or wrong when it comes to feelings. Feelings and emotions are what they are without any given perspective. What is most important is understanding our emotions and channeling these emotions in a direction which brings about positivity as the outcome.
Subject matters range from family relationships, this crazy new age of dating, internet dating do’s and don’ts, sex between consenting adults(no judgment), non-traditional ways of thinking, the new woman of the 21st century and what this has meant for the 21st century man...and much, much more.
Tune in with us once a week on Saturdays at 1:00pm.
Over and over again, I see postings about being tired after brain injury. Even years later, we seem to never be able to recover after doing almost nothing. Well, it's been proven over and over again that the Endocrine system takes a beating with brain trauma. Bleeds, hydrocephalus, car accidents and on and on, the thyroid just does not like changes it seems.
I've learned through my own head injury and even after 44 months in brain rehabs, nobody seems to know to check the thyroid after head injury. I'll talk about this and a few other things maybe you and your doctor should talk about after brain injury. Call in and let me know if you are taking something for either HypOthyroid or HypErthyroid. I take .112mcg's of Levothyroxine/Synthroid. 424-243-9540

Frustration, confusion and learning how to deal with those actions after a Traumatic Brain Injury. Good Luck! But there can be adjustments made, as we attempt to become "more pleasant" to be around (if we can be around them!). TBI's take your emotions, paranonia and distress, mix them in the same 'bag' only to of the shoulder. Folks get confused, of our actions, words and ideas (which are usually screwy at best) when stimuli takes control. We talk and talk, say things I doubt any one but the TBI speaker really understands. We are blessed around Indy, and its past time to share lesson's learned. BICS - brain injury coping skills. Now beginning to be offered world wide, I was of the first (and continuous) 'students' to graduate from the BICS - and and as learning to be a PEER Mentror was enrolled in several (6) more of the 20 week course of understanding. Caregivers by our side, we discuss, understand and learn ways (beyond strategys) to Cope With Every Day Life, at least at times. Are there slip ups? I don't know, how was YOUR morning? Did your TBI as get in the way of understanding?
Myself? Every day, all day long, even with traveling the path taught by the Dr.. Lisa Thompson Foundation 'Family Center' by Dr. Samantha Backhaus and others. I'll post some conversations of BICS, and probably touch on the 'new' Social Skills with a TBI research program. Group said I could. Listen in as various folks with a TBI discuss, learn and adjust. Why? Trust me, there is NO WHERE ELSE ON EARTH you can listen in. See, my social and coping skills aquired permission for such an offering. Learn. share but grab a pencil, to make "Mental Notes on Paper". Or, as my ol' buddy Landon Walker would sing "Give Me Love, And A Little Kindness"....
Recovering from a brain injury takes a long time and is a process filled with many tricks and few treats. In the early years it seems like a bad dream that we can't wake up from. We stumble and fall many times during this process and if we are lucky we have family and friends to help us learn ways to regain our independence. Many of us learn from these experiences and move on but some don't and become victims to a society that cares little about how we are treated. There are tricks we can learn from other people with brain injuries to become more independent in our communities. There are also treats we can receive by becoming active members in our communities. Tonight - Ken Collins will talk about lessons he has learned from living with his brain injury over the last 36 years and why he says his brain injury is the best thing that has happened to him.
