Another Fork in the Road: Ann Boriskie - Director of Brain Injury Peer Visitor

    in Education

Ann Boriskie, a TBI survivor of more than 17-years says, “Get involved. Volunteer.” “By helping others with a brain injury, you truly help yourself in so many ways.” Ann is the Brain Injury Peer Visitor Association Director and her motto is “YOU CAN!”

Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College plans, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slip from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating. But as Yogi Berra once said, "If you come to a fork in the road, take it." Life is all about choices!

Brain Injury Communication with Michael Idell Brain Injury Bonding (Prerecorded)

    in Social Networking

You do not have to be brain injured to be involved in the brain injury community. What you will learn about is how we are each other’s family in many circumstances. Because brain injuries don't just involve a traumatic brain injury, a stroke, a person who is mentally handicapped, or someone seen with a walker; there are hundreds of us who are with master’s degrees, major accomplishments, happy families, children, marriages, and careers who are brilliant and well mannered.

So many in the public don’t understand who we are. They don't understand this could be them in a moment’s notice as life events occur at any given time. Survivors and caregivers unite and we build a family of our own! We talk about what we have become and how well we stand together!

What we can do and will do is educate the public! We show individuals life is way too short and need to enjoy every second we have while we are here ALIVE! We do not let people whole us down! We will not allow anyone to talk down to us. We are strong and we are proud we have accomplished so much.

Join us together for a positive approach in life! Whining and complaining about how bad your life is, is just a waste of valuable time!

We Talk About What We Have Become and How Well We Stand Together!

Brain Injury Communication with Michael Idell- Its my birthday- Come Celebrate

    in Education

Although my birthday is actually tomorrow 12/19, I would like to have a celebration of what we have together in the brain injury community as a birthday present.

I hope you all find a positive influence in the expereinces we share on or conference calls, our radio shows, and our chats on the phone to help one another in the brain injury community.

We could not have accomplished all we have done if it wasn't for all of you with us.

This next year I would like more people to get involved in teamwork sharing/networking the work we do to help more people nationwide and globally. We plan to have a global resource center location, also set up locations in each state to communicate together for people to get education and support services and building to help all of those in need for their children, families, and friends to understand brain injury and neurological impairments of all kinds.

Brain Injury Radio Show with Michael Idell - Positive Motivation

    in Education

Positive motivation has an impact on everyone involved with family members, caregivers and those involved with neurological impairments.

Recovery processes have an undoubtable negative impact on invidividuals without a positive influence involved.

A positive perception assists everyone through coping strategies including the initial impact on the news, the struggles involved, and the accomplishments made.

Families and caregivers need to have somewhere to go to when they have their struggles like giving up their lives, paying bills, making time for another life, and the responbilities which ensue.

Then most importantly is teamwork! ANYONE INVOLVED NEEDS TO LISTEN, LEARN, AND COMMUNICATE!

This is why we (ASBISG.org) have conference calls and meetings for caregivers. All of the attention isnt focused on just the survivors lives. Caregivers and family members understanding, communication, love and affection have an enormous affect on the brain injured. We are all a product of our environment. The community needs to help one another and help each other through the good times and bad.

Set Backs in Brain Injury with Craig, Lori and Tonia

    in Motivation

    Set-Backs of Brain Injury

Brain injury is a rollercoaster in lifes roads, ups and downs and downs. Each set back can have a huge effect on our emotions our stability and the very essence of who we are. It can question the very fiber of who we are.

There does not seem to be an easy road just a road with lots of challenges that we must travel. But travel we must and we do not have a choice in the matter. But we are faced with the choice to do or not to do.

And I think that really only leaves us with the choice to do, not to do is not a good choice so on ward we go through this rollercoaster called life. It is easier together so how to find those willing riders in the journey called life

Let us travel this road together and find the success wek need to make our lives the best possible

The Propelled Heart: Moving from Injury to Insight with Dr. Toni Luisa Rivera

The Propelled Heart: Moving from Injury to Insight with Dr. Toni Luisa Rivera

She was a whirlwind of a doctor. The only chiropractor on a remote part of Puerto Rico, she was inundated with patients, many of whom were out of pain for the first time in years. Wanting to heal EVERYONE, she drove herself to extremes. But what really drove Dr. Toni Luisa Rivera was buried so deep that only in her 30s were the memories really starting to offer clarity--repeated sexual assaults before the age of four, a heart crushed by a mother so overwhelmed with the truth that she couldn't find it in herself to comfort her daughter and a burning desire to be of value, to prove her worthiness.

It was a recipe for disaster and it was only through listening deeply to her own body that Rivera found her way to physical, mental and emotional health. And it is this deep listening and intuitive technique that Dr. Toni offers her readers in her new book The Propelled Heart: Moving from Injury to Insight.

Part memoir, part healing guidebook, Dr. Rivera tells of her passage to insight, allowing injury to transform into the gifts she brings to the world. Dr. Toni recounts how she listened to her body's physical pain to help unlock those wounds of forgotten childhood sexual abuse, freeing her to follow an inner-driven, more deliberate, more intentional and joyful way of life, while still serving those who needed help.

    in Health

Beth had a stroke in her early 20's come listen to her story and be inspired!

This show is about stroke and brain injury.  It is for anyone interested in stroke with bits and pieces thrown in for inspiration, ways to be healthy, less stressed and more.  I want to be here to share and to lift up other stroke survivors.  I want to help you find out there are others going through what you have gone through.  Maybe not the same journey but a survivor none the less.  To give positive information, inspire and embrace what you have and continue moving forward.
