You do not have to be brain injured to be involved in the brain injury community. What you will learn about is how we are each others family in many cirumstances. Because brain injuries don't just involve a traumatic brain injury, a stroke, a person who is mentally handicapped, or someone seen with a walker; there are hundreds of us who are with masters degrees, major accomplishments, happy families, children, marraiges, and careers who are brilliant and well mannored.
So many in the public dont understand who we are. They don't understand this could be them in a moments notice as life events occur at any given time. Survivors and caregivers unite and we build a family of our own! We talk about what we have become and how well we stand together!
What we can do and will do is educate the public! We show individuals life is way too short and need to enjoy every second we have while we are here ALIVE! We do not let people whole us down! We will not allow anyone to talk down to us. We are strong and we are proud we have accomplished so much.
Join us together for a positive approach in life! Whining and complaining about how bad your life is, is just a waste of valuable time!

The Brain Injury Roundtable is a place for Ideas, discussion, and recovery for people seeking solutions, to bridge the gap between understanding brain injury and insights on how to change life for the better so be prepared to hear some great information to motivate and inspire us and change the world. The main reason we are tackling this topic this evening is that even a seemingly minor concussion can have life-long, life altering consequences. And that is the topic of tonight's discussion. The plan is to learn from one another and to educate one another about TBI and its aftermath. We know personally just how a traumatic even a concussion can be.
Many of us have hard days in life just as anyone else does but with a brain injury, coping strategies are hugely different.
Positive reinforcement may need to come from family, friends, and caregivers but how can we do it within ourselves?
Emotional impacts on the brain injured have a different level than the general public but it isn't impossible to achieve rewards through positive coping strategies. Let's discuss what we do to help, ideas what may be better, and alternative measures than medication.

Juliet Madsen has served in the US Army since she was 17-years old. She was involved in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. While serving her country, Juliet suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and at least one stroke, which changed her life forever.
Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, an IED blast, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slips from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating.
But as Yogi Berra once said, “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.” Life is all about choices!

More than half are bad enough that people must go to the hospital. The worst injuries can lead to permanent brain damage or death. Half of all TBIs are from motor vehicle accidents. Military personnel in combat zones are also at risk.
Join us for the 3-part series of looking at TBI in America. We will focus on sports related, military related and general causes of TBI and what you as a family member can do to co-survive this injury.

Have you or someone you have loved been wrapped up just thinking about brain injury all day and night? "I wish I was who I was back then or before"..... Does your day get taken up by thinking how bad things are or what is getting on your nerves? How much time is wasted thinking about what others are doing and what you are not doing? Where do you go from here? CHANGE.
Utilize your time in a positive fashion or you are just wasting your time!
Stop thinking of your past and concentrate on a positive tomorrow. Your time is wasted thinking about your past instead of focusing on a better life today! If you have a brain injury, you can not change the life experiences that came our way but you can change your perspective of how it consumes you. Your mind sets your mood. You decide on what gets the best of you. You decide to be strong or to be weak. If you need help or some motivation, reach out to those who love you. Call someone who cares to pick you up when you are down. Call someone in the brain injury community like us!
