EP216 Historical Pirate Fiction Author Ozgur Sahin joins Kori on the Back Porch

    in Books

Ozgur K. Sahin is an award-winning independent author and life coach currently living in Minnesota. He has a background in astrophysics, consciousness development, and history.  He is currently editing the second book in his Brethren of the Spanish Main historical pirate fiction series, and has written and blogged about narcissism and personal/social development.

    The Wrath of Brotherhood

After learning of his sister’s death at the hands of pirates, successful merchant Captain Roy Toppings sails to the Caribbean on a misguided mission of vengeance against the man who failed to protect her: her Spanish widower, Pablo Francisco.

In the climate of the Restoration-era Caribbean colonies, where scheming and stealth could yield a prize as readily as boldness and firepower, Roy's vendetta lands him and his small but talented privateer crew in the middle of political intrigue and a deadly invasion in the West Indies as the nations of Europe struggle to consolidate power in anticipation of new monarchs in England and France.

When Spain prepares a strike that could jeopardize all other commercial interests in the Caribbean, Roy must risk losing his chance at vengeance to fight for his nation and his fellow Brethren of the Coast.

Military Monday with USNI Press Author Dwight Hughes – A CONFEDERATE BIOGRAPHY

    in History

Most Americans, when they think about the Civil War, probably remember the great land battles like Gettysburg and Shiloh, not realizing that there also was a significant maritime conflict as well. From inland waterways to the deep oceans, Union and Confederate naval forces were engaged in a four-year struggle for control of the trade routes to and from North America. One key campaign was the Confederate attempt to interdict key Union maritime activities, particularly whaling ships which supplied important oil products. To accomplish this task, Confederate Secretary of the Navy Stephen Mallory commissioned and acquired a small number of armed merchant cruisers, mostly from Great Britain. Though few in number, these merchant cruisers harassed Union trade routes across the globe, and required the Union Navy to commit valuable resources to hunt them down. Along the way their captains and crews became legends in the annals of American naval history.

To learn more about the Confederate commerce raiding campaign, tune into this week's edition of Military Monday (#MilitaryMonday on the Writestream Radio Network (@Writestream)) at 1 PM EST. Author, historian, journalist, documentary filmmaker, and host John D. Gresham (@greshamj01) has invited U.S. Naval Institute Press (@USNIBooks) author Dwight Hughes to discuss his new book, A CONFEDERATE BIOGRAPHY.  The book chronicles the voyage of the Confederate merchant cruiser CSS Shenandoah, which in 1864 and 1865, circumnavigated the globe on an epic wartime cruise. Listeners are encouraged to call in and offer questions and opinions to both gentlemen, in what will be certainly an intriguing hour.

  • Offer Promos And Discounts More Effectively

    in Business

Offer Promos And Discounts More Effectively-

Use discount/promo offers to introduce new products New products, especially those that are still unknown and those that still do not have an established market base, will need a lot of boost. One way to introduce such products to customers is to initially offer them with a discount or a promo. The discount and/or promo should only last for a limited time period.  Use discount/offers to revive a declining product The use of discounts and promos are not only effective on new products. Discount and promo offers can also be used to revive a product that is losing sales. By offering a discount, you can encourage customers to buy products that they normally would not buy.  Announce sale and promo dates through your online advertisement channels Your advertisement channel includes your website and your social media pages (Facebook, Twitter). Once your customers realize that you announce sale and promo dates via these channels, they will be moved to regularly check your website and your social media pages. This is good because they will always be exposed to your online announcements. Also, you will get a lot of traffic on your sites

    Saint Jean-François-Régis Clet

    in Religion

Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org

Tenth of fifteen children; his father was a farmer and merchant, and the boy was named after Saint John Francis Regis. He was raised in a pious family; one brother became a priest, one sister a nun. Studied at the Jesuit Royal College at Grenoble, France. Joined the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) in Lyons, France on 6 March 1769, making his final vows in 1771. Ordained in 1773. Professor of moral theology at the Vincentian seminary in Annecy, France. Nicknamed “the walking library” due to his encyclopedic knowledge. Rector of Annecy in 1786. Director of novices in Paris in 1788. Director of the internal seminary at mother-house of the Congregation of the Lazarists in Paris, France. His community was disbanded, and their house destroyed by the French Revolutionists. Missionary to China in 1791. Assigned to Kiang-si in October 1792, the only European in the area; in 28 years of work, he never mastered the language. In 1793 Clet moved to Hou-Kouang in the Hopei Province where he served as superior of an international group of Vincentian missioners scattered over a very large territory; his pastoral area covered 270,000 square miles. In 1811 government anti–Christian persecutions intensified; the missionaries were accused of inciting rebellion, and had to pursue their work while on the run, often hiding in the mountains. On 16 June 1819, with a bounty on his head, Francis was betrayed by a Christian schoolmaster whose behavior the missionary had tried to correct. Force marched hundreds of miles in chains to trial. On 1 January 1820 he was found guilty of deceiving the Chinese people by preaching Christianity.
