Tom: A Life Saved ~ Lives Lost! with author Goffinet McLaren
In the middle of the night you bail out of your stricken plane over Nazi occupied Europe during WWII. You don`t know if you`ve landed in Germany, or somewhere else. A local farmer comes along. He doesn’t know if you are a Nazi, posing as an Allied airman; You don`t know if he is a member of the Resistance who might help you. Later, hiding in a Resistor`s safe-house, imagine your fear at the sound of Nazi jackboots marching outside the home. And feel the Resistor`s fear for himself and his family that the dreaded black car will pull up to the front door and the Gestapo will step out to search for evaders. How can you and your Resistor guide pretend to be unconcerned in a railway carriage as the silver-suited SS officers move along the aisle, checking traveler IDs, while you know that your papers are fake! These were some of RAF Flight Sergeant Tom Hutton`s experiences, now told by his daughter Goffinet. Parts of Tom`s story are tragic, such as the hail of bullets that cut down one of the most famous agents in Britain`s SOE, an agent who had helped her father escape just weeks before. Parts of the story are even amusing, like the Resistor guide who dressed in a flamboyant outfit to attract the Germans` attention to himself, rather than to the two Allied evaders who were following in his wake. Almost seventy years later, Goffinet learns the full story of The Village Priest who was instrumental in her father`s escape, and why she is reminded of this priest every day of her life.
This week on Alchemist Radio hosts Bryan Levick and Mitch Ciccarelli speak to a great panel of guests who are making noise in their own particular way.

We're taking a break this week but wanted to give you a reprise of one of our very favorite shows:
Brian D. McLaren is an author, speaker, activist, philosopher, mega church pastor, and public theologian. Named by Time Magazine as one of the 25 most influential people. FR. Richard Rohr calls him a spiritual genius. McLaren's writings include his acclaimed trilogy, A New Kind of Christian, also A Generous Orthodoxy, and more recently, Naked Spirituality.
Brian joins us this week on The Cosmic Citizen to discuss his most Interfaith friendly book to date: Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha and Mohammed Cross the Road? Christian Identity in a Multi-Faith World.
"It is not merely our differences that divide us, but a profound similarity--the oppositional way in which we build strong identities. It's an easy shortcut that takes us places we never intended to go."
This paradigm shifting book speaks with clarity to both laymen and clergy. It reaches a place of understanding inside each of us to expand the boundaries of our faith relationships and communities. It is relevant to people of all faith traditions or no faith tradition.
"I welcome this important contribution to showing the path through which all religions can become an emancipatory force for human liberation." Rabbi Michael Lerner
Dr. McLaren doesn't shy away from the difficult topics and questions that plague clergy in today's changing faith scene. He takes the most confusing personal faith questions and answers them with light hearted reason. His keen insights allow one to deeply consider important issues of faith while not taking oneself too seriously. His ability to open himself up to his readers reveals his humility and sincerity in his own struggles with truth seeking.

Lewis Hamilton had a remarkable day on the home turf of the Ferrari, Formula One team. The pressure of racing at one of the most popular circuits in F1 did not prevent him from making pole position. Hamilton was fast, smart, and steady on the track, during the qualifying session at Monza. The Mercedes AMG driver and 2008 World Champion beat his teammate Nico Rosberg by half a second. While some who seem to focus on Hamilton not making pole position since May, they seem to forget that Hamilton won the British Grand Prix in June from sixth position. Winning pole position is a great and preferable accomplishment and should not be discounted. However, it is far more compelling and exciting to fans and viewers, when a brilliant driver like Hamilton can win from sixth position, or, as he did in Hungary, go from pit lane to a 3rd place podium finish. Not many drivers can accomplish such a task up against a field of so many champions, as Lewis Hamilton did. So the fact that he has not been a pole sitter since May does not diminish his brilliance, on the track.
The top six cars during qualifying were powered by Mercedes engines with the Mercedes team of Hamilton and Rosberg, locking up the front row. Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa with Williams-Martini locked out the second, while Button and Magnussen with McLaren, will be on third.
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has never been one to give up, even when starting in seventh position, at a home race, with the big bosses in attendance. Although teammate Kimi Raikkonen did not qualify in the top ten, both drivers are hoping to give the fans something to cheer about on race-day.
Don’t forget to pick up your tickets for the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas at Circuit of the Americas on Oct 29-31.
