BLACK SATIN RADIO PRESENTS IMANI STAFFORD ~ POETRY IS HER PASSION

    in Entertainment

    Poetry helped Imani conquer depression:

Poetry, Imani McGee-Stafford says, saved her life.

She was still in middle school when she began putting the words rumbling through her head onto paper, filling notebook after notebook in search of a voice to break free of the depression that was choking her.

After being sexually abused as a child, the promising young basketball player attempted suicide three times by age 17. But she kept writing as part of her daily "dogfight" of emotions.

Eventually, that writing pulled her out of depression. She found her voice at slam-poetry competitions, where she could stand up and use poetry to tell her story.

Is Matthew Dellavedova a dirty player?

    in Basketball

James Harden scored a playoff career-high 45 points to help the Houston Rockets avoid elimination in Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors. During the game, Stephen Curry took a hard and awkward fall resulting in a head contusion as the basketball world held its collective breath.

Meanwhile, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are one win away from advancing to the NBA Finals without Kevin Love, and with Kyrie Irving limited with a knee injury. On the other hand, the Atlanta Hawks lost a heartbreaking Game 3 and are on the brink of elimination.

With that in mind, Michael Scotto of SheridanHoops.com joined ESPN Radio host Freddie Coleman to discuss the state of each series and other topics. Is Harden a superstar? Why did Curry return to the game with a head contusion? Is Matthew Dellavedova a dirty player?

Miss Winn takes in up to four young male foster children at a time. She uses patience and love to teach her charges how to accept their situation - then to use the resources available to them to build a life for themselves despite early setbacks. One of her most useful tools is to have the boys care for a plant that is as pathetic as their own lives. As they tend their plants they learn to accept that all living things (including themselves) need love and nurturing to grow and thrive.
