The outright power and ugliness of the devil is on display in this world.

The “March for Life” was yesterday in Lincoln and Pastor was there. He witnessed the depraved counter demonstrations of the pro-abortionists and the ungodliness sickened him.

Jesus Christ has given us the victory over the world, the devil and our sinful nature. “Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.”, Jeremiah 1:8. The devil is defeated and we are set free.

    Presumption is Ugly.

For instance a cop stops someone for speeding and the perpetrator says, “You can’t stop me - I’m the governor’s son”. That’s presumption.

In the gospel, Jesus goes to the synagogue and reads Isaiah’s prophesy concerning Him. They respond with. “Is this not Joseph’s son” and “Physician heal yourself”.This is presumption because they think Jesus should treat them special because he’s “one of them”. Presumption is toxic.

The gospel sets us free from condemnation and we are made His true children in baptism. We have been set free from the devil’s  accusations. Our Lord Jesus Christ welcomes us into His presence. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” This is not presumption.

The King of Scotland is Dead…

...murdered by Macbeth...egged on by Lady Macbeth and she is driven insane by the guilt. “Out Damned Spot.” The impurity of guilt.

In the gospel, there are six stone jars for water to ceremonially wash but they remain impure and stand condemned. Mary tells the servants to do what Christ says and Jesus tells the servants to fill the jars with water and the water is transformed into wine.

“Do what He tells you” is God’s will but it’s not about the law.”Come unto Me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” is relief from the burden of the law. It’s nothing we do, it’s all about Christ. Life, rest, peace, salvation.

    The Party’s Over.

The New Year is here...lots of unknowns for the coming year...joys and pain. Solomon in 1 Kings (first reading) says, “I do not know how to go out or come in”. Baptismal phrase: “bless your coming in and going out, now and forever more”. (Bless our lives here and in heaven.)

Christ dwells in us with Holy Baptism. Because of Jesus, God will meet us in that hour. The gospel reigns supreme. Jesus is Word made flesh and wisdom incarnate. Be found at His feet and announce the Word of the Lord.

PREPARATION FOR THE WEDDING OF THE LAMB!

    in Christianity

    BIBLEBOOKCLUB: Zechariah 12:1-13:9, NT:Revelation 19:1-21, Psalm 147:1-20, Proverbs 31:1-7

In Revelation 19, John heard the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife (THE CHURCH) hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. FRIENDS, THIS IS US, THE CHURCH IN HEAVEN. WE ARE CLEAN AND WHITE (Righteousness of the saints). LET US STRIVE TO PERSEVERE AND STAY FAITHFUL TO THE END!1 John 5:4 says, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith!

John 1:29-39 (The Lamb of God)

    in Christianity

There was one man chosen by God to be the forerunner of the Messiah of Israel. Now that the Savior had come, John the Baptist stood faithful to his task. The Son of God had come into the world and this now means every person must decide how they will respond to the Lamb of God.

Sunday Morning Divine Service - Dec 20 2015

    in Christianity

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 12/20/15. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Houser’s sermon from the gospel of Luke 1: 39-56. Mary greets Elizabeth and recites the Magnificat.

It’s always about Jesus - Old and New Testament.

The will of the Father is our salvation. In the gospel lesson, salvation long promised is developing in Mary’s womb. The Prince of Peace.

Everywhere Christ is found, the Holy Spirit resides. As Luther stated, “God will not despise us”. Christ resides in us despite our low estate and we have received the Holy Spirit in faith.

    The Purpose of God.

The gospel says the purpose of God is our lives and salvation. We don’t play a role, but because of sin, we think we do.

In the gospel, Jesus makes it clear the law is fulfilled with His coming and therefore we are saved. Our baptism wins the day.

The purpose of God for us is Jesus.
