Computer America - Malwarebytes ; Parallels!

    in Technology

    Computer America

Hour one: Malwarebytes. Adam Kujawa, Head of Malware Intelligence.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes and detects malware that even the biggest AV apps fail to...in fact, all of the big AV company tech support departments recommend Malwarebytes to their customers in addition to their own AV software. That's because Malwarebytes is not a replacement for anti-virus technology because you need both to properly protect your PC. So, just like having a seatbelt to be safe on the road isn't enough anymore, you need two different technologies, the seatbelt AND the airbag, to properly defend yourself in your car. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware catches the zero day, polymorphic and malware in the wild that standard AV technologies were not built to handle.

Hour two: Parallels. Kurt Schmucker, Senior Product Manager.

Parallels lets you run Windows and even Linux on your Macintosh natively with all of the bells and whistles that go along with these operating systems!  You can run them concurrently with Mac OS X!  Or you can use a variety of different modes that let you run these different operating systems invisibly so you don't even have to know which OS is running at the moment!

    Satellite Nation -- Season 2, Episode 18

    in Technology

This week on Satellite Nation Brian and I will be discussing using a computer for FTA/OTA instead of a Stand Alone STB. This might be opening up your computer and inserting a tuner card. Another way is to by a USB receiver, that plugs into a USB port on your computer.
Why would anyone want to do this? Are there advantages to using a computer? Is it easy or do you have to be a computer programmer to know how to make it all work? Windows, Linux, Mac, ARM based?

Tune in to find out more info!

Interop Radio: Making It in Maker Management

    in Technology

IT is big. Really big. So big, in fact, that it encompasses systems from the very, very large to the rather tiny. It's those tiny systems that are the specialty of our guest this week, Tenaya Hurst of Linino.org and Rogue Making.

Note: Technical issues prevented Tenaya from being with us for today's show. Instead, we talked about the results of an Intel study reported in MakeHers Report: Engaging Girls and Women in Technology through Making, Creating, and Inventing. We will work on having Tenaya as a guest on a future episode.

Tenaya is a passionate "maker", creating wearable technology and teaching programming (along with a variety of other skills) to interested groups and individuals across North America.

Join us for a show that will look at what it takes to be a woman "making it" in the maker community, how the special energy of the maker community has had an impact on her management ideas, and why the DIY spirit of "makers" might just be critical for the future success of your IT projects.

Interop 2015 will take place from April 27th through May 1st at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. More information and registration details are available online!
