This week's episode of Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from The One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico. After being hit by Hurricane Odile in September 2014, Los Cabos was badly damaged. Like many other properties, the One&Only Palmilla suffered major wounds and had to close for a massive recovery and rebuilding effort. But now it’s back, and some would say, better than ever.
The resort’s staff pulled together as a community in one of the stronger examples of a public/private partnership. Arnie Weissmann, Editor-in-Chief of Travel Weekly, talks about disaster tourism and why now is the time to go to Los Cabos. Then the President of the Los Cabos Humane Society, Aida Trujillo, talks about animal displacement after the storm and how visitors can help…including international pet adoption! (Hint—you get to fly your new pet home…for free!). All of this and more on this week's Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from The One&Only Palmilla.
Former law enforcement professional Lillie Leonardi has always lived with her feet planted in two separate worlds—the metaphysical and the physical. In the Shadow of a Badge: A Memoir about Flight 93, a Field of Angels, and My Spiritual Homecoming takes readers on a dramatic journey of what happens when Leonardi’s two distinct realities intertwine.
During her work at the Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and as a result of the fateful events of September 11th, 2001, Leonardi was forced to confront her connection to the divine—something she has struggled with since youth. Her stirring personal account of the 12 days she spent acting as an FBI liaison carries readers into a world that combines the factual and logistical with the angelic and mystical.
After witnessing what she describes as a “field of angels” during her first hours at the crash site, Leonardi must finally reconcile the opposing sides of her life. Readers walk with her through the diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), experience the guilt and fear that grip her, and share in the remarkable transformation of her soul as she discovers that forgiveness—of self and others—can be the best remedy.
As an inspiring example of what it means to be called to service, Leonardi shows that it’s never too late to find your spiritual path and life’s purpose.

Music Journalist Alli Marshall has begun the promotional tour for her first novel, How to Talk to Rockstars, which was inspired by her years of interviewing musicians. The Western New York native was transplanted to Western North Carolina via Goddard College where she earned her MFA in Creative Writing before landing a job as the arts & entertainment reporter at Asheville’s alt-weekly news and arts paper, Mountain Xpress. A dozen years later she’s still at it, regularly interviewing musicians and artists of all genres, reviewing albums and writing articles. She also serves as the arts section editor at Xpress.
Musician, songwriter and performer Joey Stuckey has no boundaries. In his spare time, we're guessing he never sleeps, he is a producer, adjunct professor, TV show host, studio engineer - at his own Shadow Studios - husband, and very active in his community of Macon, Georgia. He's worked with and is highly respected by many of music's luminaries. While in Nashville working a production gig with legendary Alan Parsons he suggested a subtle change with one of the instruments would greatly improve the recording. After testing the idea, Parsons deferred to his judgement and followed it by directing the crew to follow Stuckey's direction without question. Yet even the Eye In The Sky guy likely never imagined he would see video proof of the Macon guitar slinger carjacking a woman's BMW to get to a gig in the video for his Blues song Blind Man Drivin'.
Mme Perry also had a few surprise guests that night!
