Immediately following Bethany's diagnosis in August 1995 with a terminal illness, Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), Lindey and Dave McIntyre recognized that her only hope was research! Their medical team had informed them that there was nothing that could be done. There no hope for Bethany! Due to a lack of funding there was very little MLD Research being conducted anywhere around the world.
Determined to make a difference, the McIntyre family, their friends and co-workers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca) formed Bethanys Hope Committee. They were committed to raise research capitol and during the first 12 months of operation this small but dedicated group of Volunteers raised over $100,000 through donations, golf tournaments, bingos, BBQs and a Charity Gala Ball.
Today, we are joined by Lindey McIntyre who will inspire & amaze you with her love <3
Please join us as we chat with Jill Kelly, author of WITHOUT A WORD. Jill Kelly is the wife of former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly. In September 1997, three months after their infant son, Hunter, was diagnosed with a fatal disease called Krabbe Leukodystrophy, Jim and Jill founded the Hunter's Hope Foundation. As chairman of the board of Hunter's Hope, Jill helps children suffering from Leukodystrophy and their families by raising awareness and research funds to fight this devastating disease. She and Jim live in Buffalo, NY, with their two daughters and three dogs.
Join us this week on Christian Devotions SPEAK UP!as host Scott McCausey interviews author and founder of Hunter’s Hope, Jill Kelly.
“Two weeks after my husband Jim retired from his Hall of Fame career with the Buffalo Bills, our son was born. On his daddy’s birthday, Valentine’s Day, 1997, Hunter James Kelly joined our family. We were ecstatic. The protégé son had arrived full of life and promise. Our family was growing and life seemed perfect.”
“With our two-year-old daughter, Erin, shadowing my every move, Hunter adjusted to life…Kelly style. And while he initially appeared to be just a very fussy infant, Hunter was actually fighting for his life. The news of his fatal, genetic disease was shocking. It’s every parent’s deepest terror. We were told that Hunter would not live to see his second birthday. With no treatment, no cure, and ultimately no answers, we were desperate.”
What do you do when your family’s world is turned upside down? What do you do when you don’t know what to do? How do you face the trauma and press on when all hope is gone? The Kelly family turned to God. Following His lead, Jill has become an author and the founder of Hunter’s Hope. Find out more about Jill as she shares this powerful testimony.
