Nanny and Me: Children's Book Author on Hiring a Caregiver for Your Child

    in Moms and Family

A dedicated philanthropist and former nanny, Florence Ann Romano has always kept a special place in her heart for children.

Romano started caring for kids before she was a teenager, and she shares those experiences in her first book for children and their parents. Mascot Books releases “Nanny and Me” in May 2015. A woman with a charitable spirit, Romano spends time working with nonprofit organizations. Inspired by her younger brother, whom is autistic, she is the founder and president of a junior board that supports awareness for children, adults and families touched by Autism.

I recently had a simply delightful conversation with Florence about her children’s book, Nanny and Me, and a wide range of topics from what parents should look for when hiring a nanny, to mommy guilt and growing up with a sibling who lives with autism. Please take a listen.

BONUS: Campaign for Fair Education Funding

    in Moms and Family

Education has taken my family from scrubbing floors, to managing a hospital. I am so fortunate that my grandmothers recognized the importance of obtaining an education and worked tirelessly to provide learning opportunities to their children. And for generations the value of education has been passed passed down.

I became an elementary school teacher, so that I could impart that same value in education and lifelong love of learning upon other children. When given the opportunity to receive a high-quality education, all students can achieve. I've witnessed first-hand students who come from some of the poorest neighborhoods and most challenging of circumstances grow up to earn college degrees and achieve greatness both personally and professionally. Every child deserves that opportunity!

Please join me on this BONUS episode of Mom Talk with Denise LaRosa, as I speak with Allies for Children Executive Director Patrick Dowd and Hear Me Project Manager Jessica Kaminsky about the need for fair education funding in Pennsylvania, and how parents, educators, children and caregivers can get involved!

You too can speak out for students across the state! To find out how to get involved, visit FairFundingPA.org!

Disclosure: I’m teaming up with the Campaign for Fair Education Funding to speak out for students across Pennsylvania. Although I am receiving some form of compensation, all opinions remain my own. #FairFundingPA

    Ultimate Play Day

    in Moms and Family

The Ultimate Play Day is a day long celebration focused on the idea that play is a crucial aspect of everyone’s life. Hosted by the Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative, the Ultimate Play Day is an opportunity for the Pittsburgh community to come together in a centralized location to engage in and learn about play. This year, local and regional organizations will host play stations throughout Burgwin Park to provide a holistic model of innovative and creative play. The event will feature outdoor play, an opportunity to create with natural materials such as small logs, rocks, & acorns, games made from recycled material, art, the imagination playground, story telling sessions, hula hoop play, and drum circles. There will be play for every age—from the very young to the most seasoned!

This celebration will also introduce community members to playful organizations such as The Carnegie Museum of Art, The Saturday Light Brigade, Kids Plus Pediatrics, PAEYC, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, and many more! Our hope is that this event will spark conversations regarding other play-based topics including, play and learning, risk and play, nature play, and play through design.

Join me as I speak with Cara Ciminillo to chat about this exciting event!

    MMA DieHArds Radio: Tara LaRosa

    in Sports

On this episode of MMA DieHards Radio, hosts Jason Kelly (Twitter: @JayMMADieHards) and Joe Rizzo (Twitter: @rearnakedchoke) welcome back Tara LaRosa.

LaRosa (Twitter: @TaraLaRosa) recently competed against Rin Nakai at "Pancrase 252: 20th Anniversary" in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.  LaRosa and Nakai went to a decision, which resulted in controversy.  LaRosa appeared to have done enough to earn the judges' decision, but, in Japan, it's tough for an America to seal the victory and that led to Nakai picking up the win.  Though, LaRosa was disappointed she left The Land of the Rising Sun without a win, she did enjoy many of the things Japan had to offer.

LaRosa also talked TUF 18, shared funny stories in Japan and revealed what she'll sell for $1,000.  Listen up! This is a classic you do not want to miss!
