Earth Works Presents: Tanya Fields and The BLK ProjeK
Inspired by her experiences as a single working mother living in a marginalized community, in 2009 Tanya Fields founded the BLK ProjeK.
She hoped to respond to the sexist institutional policies, structurally reinforced cycles of poverty, and harsh inequities in wealth and access to capital resulting in far too many women being unable to rise out of poverty and sustain their families.
The group was nominated for a 2011 Union Square Award and Tanya has the honor of being a Green for All Fellows, through which she connects with a national cohort of environmental justice change agents.
With a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Baruch College, and a talent for public speaking, blogging and singing,Tanya has become a sought after speaker.
She provided a widely praised keynote speech at the 2012 "Just Food" conference, and served as a plenary panelist for the 2011 conference of the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working Group.
Previous to the BLK ProjeK, Tanya worked with several high profile environmental organizations located in the South Bronx - Mothers on the Move, Sustainable South Bronx and the Majora Carter Group. Tanya built upon the network, skills, resources and knowledge she gained through those experiences to create the BLK ProjeK.
She currently writes a twice monthly column on food and food justice for EBONY.com

The kingdom of God will use all types of people to deliver his message but only those considered his children will inherit the kingdom of God. Many are called but few are chosen (Matt 22:14). We often refute what we do not understand or are willing to accept. Many will not accept or want to hear any voice, opinion, position except their own, taking a position or a stand rooted in pride. Often attempting to achieve god status when partaking in the divine nature and grace should not lead one to believe they are God, but acknowledge that you too can have the same destiny as God’s only begotten son of God and be divinely commissioned to preach the “Good News” of kingdom of God. Speaking with Annette Y. Fields: Entrepreneur
Annette Y. Fields, An Author, A Motivator and A Transformed Woman, is the CEO/Founder of Virtuous Victories, Inc. She has used her testimony as a stepping stone for greatness and has spoken locally at numerous organizations, churches, schools and media outlets. Annette wrote her first article about living with HIV entitled: “God, Me and HIV” and co-authored the book “A Woman’s Story, Overcoming the Shame of HIV”. Netty, as she is affectionately called, is declaring that she is already HEALED from HIV of 18 years. She has never been sick, with the virus, and has gone from eight to ten pills a day to 1 pill a day! Annette strongly believes in the development of individuals by pushing them to truly recognize their self-worth. Her purpose is also to empower others to recognize their importance and to be true and faithful to whom they are; which enables them to become whole. She definitely believes that to obtain achievements in life, we are not to surrender to others, however, learning how to become self-reliant and growing to live healthier lifestyles. Once we learn to do that, we can all experience Virtuous Victorious lives! Annette has a message for the world, she has dedicated her life to sharing her testimony so that others will be encouraged and have the ability to walk into their purposes and destinies. Annette is the mother of two daughters and the grandmother of four and currently resides in the South Suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.
